Martin Compston has given fans a promising hint about when Line of Duty might return to television. The popular BBC police drama was recently confirmed to be continuing after much speculation, and Compston will be back as Steve Arnott, along with Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings and Vicky McClure as Kate Fleming.
The actor recently shared some details about the upcoming season, telling Radio X that he’s particularly excited about the new cast members joining the show.
He didn’t say who the new guest stars will be, but the show has a history of attracting incredibly talented actors, like Lennie James, Kelly Macdonald, Thandiwe Newton, and Stephen Graham.

Compston hinted at compelling upcoming episodes, saying that the show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, has crafted a fantastic story. He described the scripts as incredibly gripping and fast-paced.
He explained the long wait between seasons, saying they always intended to continue the show, but didn’t want to promise fans something that might not happen. He acknowledged it had been five years since the last season, and they didn’t want to mislead anyone.

When the show’s return was announced last month, Martin Compston described Line of Duty as “a career highlight,” adding that he’s become close friends with many of the people he worked with on it.
“I can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together.”
In a statement, Mercurio expressed the team’s gratitude to viewers of Line of Duty. They feel lucky to have had so many people follow AC-12’s story over the past six seasons and are thrilled to be making a seventh season.

Since the popular show Line of Duty isn’t currently on, I’ve had to rely on my own thoughts to imagine how corruption might be handled in this country.
Filming for the seventh season is scheduled to begin next spring in Belfast. However, Martin Compston wasn’t able to confirm a 2026 release date, explaining that the show’s creators prefer to take a careful approach to production.
Line of Duty seasons 1-6 are streaming on BBC iPlayer. Season 7 is yet to confirm a release date.
