In conversation with The Times, Dunbar expressed that he and the Line of Duty cast are prepared to resume filming next year, although the BBC has not yet confirmed this or made a formal statement about it.
They’re thrilled at the prospect of obtaining a “Line of Duty” script for an inside look. After all, it’s being penned by none other than Jed Mercurio. They’ve even discussed this with the BBC.
The responsibility lies with the BBC to make an announcement, and we’re hoping beyond hope that next year we’ll be involved in a fresh series. There’s little doubt in our minds that Jed will come up with some intriguing plot developments.
Towards the beginning of this month, Dunbar subtly suggested a comeback for the series, expressing hope in an interview with BBC Radio Ulster: “We’re all crossing our fingers and eagerly awaiting an announcement from the BBC.
He mentioned that Jed is busy, but he, Vicky McClure, and Martin Compston are eager to proceed. Fingers crossed, we might be back in Belfast next year, causing a stir again.
He added: “The wheels are turning on that. It’s just down to the BBC to make an announcement.”
Simultaneously, Compston, who portrayed Steve Arnott, subtly suggested a potential comeback for the series during his interview on Nicky Byrne HQ.
Inquired about his participation in Soccer Aid the following year, Compston playfully hinted: “I believe, indeed, I’ve learned that I’ll be filming next year. This upcoming production is going to be quite impressive.
