Line of Duty stars drop the biggest hint yet that the beloved BBC drama is returning

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m totally hyped up because Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar from the hit show Line of Duty are subtly suggesting that we might be seeing more of their antics on BBC! This could mean that our favorite series is making a comeback, which is absolutely thrilling news for fans like me.

The police series last appeared on TV during its sixth season in 2021, with it being declared as the finale; however, whispers suggest a potential return for a seventh season.

On BBC Radio Ulster, the actor who plays Ted Hastings, Dunbar, hinted that something exciting could occur, saying “I certainly hope so”. He also mentioned that they are anxiously awaiting a decision from the BBC.

He mentioned that Jed is busy at work. Furthermore, he, Vicky, and Martin are eager to continue with the project. Therefore, it’s hoped that next year they will return to Belfast, causing a stir as they roam around town.

Dunbar added, “Things are moving forward with that matter. It’s now up to the BBC to release an update.

Steve Arnott, played by actor Compston, subtly suggested a possible return of the show during an interview on Nicky Byrne HQ. When asked about participating in Soccer Aid next year, the actor hinted at future appearances.

The actor hinted with a smile, “I believe I’ll be filming next year. This upcoming production is bound to be quite impressive.” He playfully suggested that while he wouldn’t disclose the details of his project, “I think many might be able to guess what it is, though.

On various occasions recently, Compston hasn’t shied away from addressing these rumors. He’s implied that for a potential comeback, everything needs to fall perfectly into place for all involved actors.

He mentioned that there are constant discussions about options and timelines, and such, to The Sun. Given everyone is busy at the moment, he believes that any potential event, regrettably, is still quite far in the future.

It’s heartening to see that the enthusiasm for the show hasn’t waned, and I’m happy about that. Here’s hoping we get another chance to collaborate in the future. We often find ourselves reminiscing about our time working together.

The actor also confessed that they truly value the quality, and if there’s a chance for Line of Duty to return, it would only happen with genuine intentions.

Line of Duty streams on BBC iPlayer.

The latest print issue from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25,” is now available! You can purchase it at your local newsagents or online for only £8.99.
