If you’re a fan of Line of Duty and eagerly awaiting its return, you’ll definitely enjoy The Revenge Club, a darkly funny and thrilling new comedy starring Martin Compston.

What starts as a satisfying plan for revenge quickly becomes something regrettable when six ex-partners try to get back at those who hurt them, and their scheme spirals out of control.

Compston stars as Callum, one of six people who find themselves in a divorce support group after being hurt in their past relationships. They’re all trying to cope with the emotional fallout.

It was amazing to see him, along with everyone else, finally letting off steam in a way none of us expected. But things started to get really intense when their desire for revenge grew stronger and their playful actions became seriously risky – it was like their fun was spiraling out of control!

Mark Compston’s character in his new role is a far cry from the controlled and disciplined Steve Arnott he played in Line of Duty, and it’s really captivating. You can see a clear change from a rule-follower to a furious, broken man haunted by regret, expressed through his language and outbursts.

Man, this actor nails the part of Callum. He plays him like a total wrecking ball, just smashing through everything and causing chaos – it’s clear he’s doing it to hide how scared and messed up he actually is. And that’s what makes the few times you see a softer side of him hit so hard. It’s really powerful stuff.

Still, he isn’t the only draw of the six-part Paramount+ series.

Honestly, it’s not often you see a show get the casting so right. Everyone in the main group is just perfect for their role, and Meera Syal as Rita is a standout – she’s such a complex and interesting character, it’s awesome.

She usually appears calm, but occasionally reveals her true feelings through small, unexpected reactions. It’s clear she’s close to losing her patience, and this group of hurting individuals seems poised to be the catalyst.

Sharon Rooney plays Rachel with a cheerful and lively personality, but this is actually a disguise to hide a painful secret she doesn’t want anyone to discover.

Aimée-Ffion Edwards, who plays Emily in Slow Horses, is the standout performer. Her character’s devastating betrayal completely upends her life, and that vulnerability makes her surprisingly relatable.

The show is so compelling that you end up not just forgiving the characters’ mistakes as they desperately try to fix things, but actively rooting for them – and that’s what makes it truly great.

The Revenge Club cleverly gets you to understand and even sympathize with the group’s wild behavior, even though some of the characters are difficult to like—especially once you learn about their exes.

The characters display a wide range of maliciousness, from simple indifference to deliberate cruelty, and Niamh Walsh, Eoin Duffy, and Payal Mistry portray these differences exceptionally well.

Even though it’s a small role, Amit Shah deserves recognition for his performance as divorce counselor Malcolm. He skillfully portrays the complex and often intense emotions of the group, and cleverly uses these moments to create comedic effect.

The Revenge Club blends dark comedy with thriller elements, creating a suspenseful and captivating story.

The first three episodes have built towards a huge and impactful ending. It wouldn’t be shocking if Malcolm gets caught up in the chaos too – he seems like someone who could easily lose control.

This show consistently challenges viewers to consider their own sense of right and wrong, even as the characters face increasingly difficult situations. It makes you wonder if getting revenge is ever truly worth the cost, and when it’s time to stop the cycle of conflict.

These damaged characters will likely find the answers they’re looking for by the end of the series, but it remains to be seen whether those answers will help them heal or cause even more pain. That’s the real question.
