Jed Mercurio, the creator of Line Of Duty, has shared a sneak peek of what viewers can expect in the seventh season, building excitement for the show’s comeback.
Vicky McClure, Martin Compston, and Adrian Dunbar are filming new episodes as AC-12, about five years after the show’s sixth season received a mixed reaction from fans. The popular police drama had left many viewers disappointed with its previous finale.
Viewers were mostly unhappy with how the show ended. The reveal that the seemingly incompetent Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells, portrayed by Nigel Boyle, was actually the corrupt mastermind ‘H’ felt anticlimactic and unsatisfying.
Okay, you guys, I’m losing it! Adrian Dunbar just posted the most amazing photo on Instagram. It was a picture of him as Ted Hastings, in full uniform, looking all serious and powerful while they were setting up for a new scene. Seriously, seeing him as Superintendent Hastings just… gets me every time! I can’t wait to see what they’re filming!
A famous quote from Hastings stated, ‘I’m only interested in one thing: corrupt police officers.’
The well-known police show first appeared on BBC Two, but after three seasons, it switched to BBC One.
In February, news came out that Robert Carlyle, the actor known for his BAFTA award, would be appearing as a guest character named Detective Constable Shaun Massie.
He joins a distinguished group of past guest stars, including Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Graham, Thandiwe Newton, Daniel Mays, Keeley Hawes, and Lennie James.
Carlisle expressed his excitement about joining the cast, saying he’s been a long-time fan of Jed Mercurio’s work and thrilled to be part of the seventh series of Line of Duty alongside such a talented group of actors.
The show’s writing is top-notch and will definitely keep the quality high that viewers have grown to love.
‘DC Massie is an extraordinary character and I look forward to bringing him to life.’
Jed, the writer of the show, also said they’ve been lucky to have so many talented guest stars appear on Line of Duty over the years.
We’re delighted to announce that Robert Carlyle will join series 7 as Shaun Massie, a specialist rifle officer.
I’ve admired Robert’s work for a long time, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him – it’s a real dream come true for my career.
Robert consistently delivers captivating and nuanced performances. He makes you instantly wonder what his character will do and what motivates them, keeping audiences thoroughly engaged.
BBC drama director Lindsay Salt explained that sometimes an actor feels like the perfect fit for a role, making it impossible to picture anyone else in the part.
Robert Carlyle is a truly exceptional actor and ideally suited to play a role in the hugely popular show, Line of Duty.
The seventh season of Line of Duty will show what happens to the AC-12 team after their unit is shut down and reformed under a new name: the Inspectorate of Police Standards.
Fans can expect a more intense season of the anti-corruption unit’s investigations, as Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings tackle their most challenging and confidential case yet.
Detective Constable Shaun Massie is an experienced sharpshooter and part of an elite tactical unit (TO-7) that focuses on dismantling organized crime groups.
Massie is a private, solitary man who generally avoids getting involved in other people’s affairs. However, when his boss, DI Dominic Gough, is accused of sexual assault, Massie’s reserved nature is completely shaken, and he’s forced to react.
Line Of Duty series seven is expected to air in 2027.
