In my own words, I’d say: “I still find myself battling for things that are reminiscent of the struggle portrayed in ‘A Prairie Home Companion’, a film from 2006 directed by Robert Altman. It’s Meryl Streep who starred, and my performance was lauded for its dramatic flair. Frustratingly, even today, I encounter similar challenges.
You recognize me for who I am, yet you’re aware of my capabilities beyond that. Therefore, trust me in this. Provide me with the opportunity. It’s time to break free from that repetitive pattern and explore new possibilities, giving others no other choice.
Even after over twenty years in showbiz, she couldn’t shake off the persistent feeling of being pigeonholed, a sense of dissatisfaction that remained with her.
Although her acts frequently received praise for their genuine charm and depth of emotion, she pointed out that the industry seldom provided her the opportunity to develop further.
Her performances in group movies such as “Bobby” and alongside icons like Meryl Streep might have solidified her status as a multifaceted leading actress, but unfortunately, Hollywood persisted in categorizing her within the realm of teen comedies and was influenced by her private affairs, which seemingly halted her career progression.
With the impending launch of “Freakier Friday,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 hit movie about body-swapping, and a significant role in the suspenseful drama “Count My Lies” which she is also producing, Lindsay is resolute on changing the storyline for the better.
This time around, she’s keen for people to appreciate her skills rather than the gossip magazine history that cast a shadow over her 20s.
She expressed her longing for movies that tell compelling narratives, similar to “All About Eve” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Unfortunately, she finds it hard to find such major films that she desires to watch. There seems to be a void in the industry, and she yearns for an opportunity to create work of this caliber.
Though she openly acknowledges that her personal life experiences have influenced her actions, she explains that her return to the screen was a matter of patience – waiting for the opportune time and suitable content.
She clarified, “I needed a moment. The thrill of making films was fading, so I decided to step back and experience life on my own terms for a while. I sought to establish a more personal, authentic lifestyle. Essentially, I wanted to wait until the desire to return to filmmaking returned.
In the sequel of the 2003 movie, titled “Freaky Friday,” Lindsay and Jamie Lee Curtis find themselves entangled in a fourfold predicament once more. This time around, they trade bodies for a third time, a full 22 years after their initial body-swapping incident.
Just prior to the screening a month ago, Jamie disclosed the cause for the prolonged delay in releasing the sequel.
On The One Show, Jamie disclosed that they needed to delay the sequel until Lindsay’s character reached an age where she could have a teenager, in order for the storyline to fit appropriately.
She mentioned that since Lindsay appeared to have a fifteen-year-old daughter, people would repeatedly inquire about the film. Given her age, it was apparent to them.
Lastly, a person from Australia commented, “Well, she is,” which left me puzzled, prompting me to ask, “In what way?” since I have always known her as a young lady and thus was unaware of her age.
‘So someone told me and I was, like ”Oh! well maybe we can make the movie. Let’s go!”’
At the age of 15, Lindsay initially embodied the character Anna Coleman in Freaky Friday, with Jamie Lee taking on the role of Tess Coleman, her on-screen mom, opposite her.
After an argument following a misunderstanding with a Chinese restaurant fortune cookie swap, a mother and her daughter find themselves living each other’s lives.
