Linda Nolan’s Sister Pays Tribute at Beloved Star’s Glittery Funeral
In a touching eulogy at St. Paul’s Church in Blackpool on Saturday, Linda Nolan’s sister Denise expressed that she believed her late sister would have ‘enjoyed all the attention’ during the service.
As a devoted admirer, I’m deeply saddened to share that the legendary singer, Linda, left us on January 15 at the age of 65. She fought bravely for two decades against breast cancer, and in her final days, she was also battling double pneumonia. Her strength and resilience will forever inspire me.
During her final performance, Denise disclosed that Linda enjoyed the glamorous way of life and frequently attended movie premiers and opening nights.
In a touching tribute, Denise courageously shared heartfelt recollections of her sister among numerous celebrities gathered, delivering an affectionate eulogy.
Denise mentioned about Linda: “Linda adored attending grand openings and premieres, getting her hair and makeup done elegantly, and she always brought vivacity to any significant event.
‘She would have loved all the fuss today.’
On the 15th of January, Linda, who was 65 years old, passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Her death was due to a severe case of double pneumonia, leading her to require end-of-life care and eventually fall into a coma.
In my experience as a lifestyle expert, I was accompanying an individual who battled secondary breast cancer that unfortunately metastasized to her hip, liver, and brain. However, it’s essential to clarify that cancer was not the primary reason for her demise; rather, complications associated with her condition ultimately led to her passing.
The remaining sisters from the ’80s Irish pop band (Maureen, age 71, Anne, 74, Denise, 72, and Coleen, 59) successfully collected £2,670 for Trinity Hospice.
Linda was buried at her cherished location, Blackpool – the place that brought the Nolan family’s fame when they relocated there in 1972, a home they resided in for significant periods of their lives. At one point, they even composed a song named “Blackpool” about the local football team and recorded it.
The funeral ceremony took place at the very church on Honister Avenue, which had been the venue for Linda’s wedding to her cherished spouse, Brian Hudson, back in 1981.
Back in 2007, when Brian took his final bow at the tender age of 60 due to a cruel battle with skin cancer, it was within the hallowed walls of that very church where we bid him our tearful farewells. I, an ardent fan, still feel the poignancy of that day vividly.
A private service followed at a crematorium nearby, with Linda laid to rest with Brian’s ashes.
Earlier, her sister, Colleen, shared that they had chosen where Linda would be laid to rest, stating to The Mirror: “When Brian passed away, my immediate instinct was to combine his remains with Linda’s.
‘So that’s what we’re doing. In life they were never apart, so I’m glad they’ll be together again.’
Following Linda’s passing, her siblings Anne (age 74), Denise (age 72), Maureen (age 69), and Coleen (age 59) invited Linda’s fans to pay their respects and honor ‘the extraordinary life she lived.’
Fans gathered outside St Paul’s in designated areas, joining in with the family’s final farewell.
A post on social media last week extended an invitation from the Nolan family for everyone to partake in a celebration honoring the remarkable life of Linda Nolan.
Linda was a shining example of resilience, compassion, and endless love, touching the hearts of all those she encountered, as well as countless others worldwide.
In my heart, I carry an emptiness that her absence has left behind, yet the radiance of the love, optimism, and compassion she so generously bestowed upon us continues to shine brightly in our lives. Her legacy thrives within us all.
All those who either knew Linda personally or were affected by her, are invited to join us in honoring her memory, as we celebrate the extraordinary life she lived.
Everyone is invited to assemble outside the church during the funeral service, and in keeping with Linda’s lively nature, the more people who join, the better!
‘Linda holds a deeply cherished affection for St. Paul’s Church. It is the venue where she exchanged vows with her beloved husband, Brian Hudson, and they spent 26 beautiful years together in marriage. Brian was Linda’s pillar of strength, her perfect match, and the love of her life, who felt the same about her.’
In 2007, when Brian unfortunately passed away, I found within myself an unfathomable resilience to keep going. Yet, my love for him remained steadfast and unyielding. It was at St. Paul’s that I bid him a last farewell, choosing the very same church where we had made our vows to each other as husband and wife, to hold his funeral service.
Now, Linda is heading back to this special location to meet Brian again, finding tranquility and being wrapped in his affectionate hug once more.
After the ceremony concludes, we’ll have a small, exclusive cremation at a local crematorium, which will be limited to immediate family and close friends.
In 2005, Linda was initially detected with stage-three breast cancer and declared cancer-free in 2006. However, in 2017 she was diagnosed with an incurable type of secondary cancer in her hip that metastasized to her liver in 2020.
Reflecting on the past three years, I’ve found myself compelled to share an update about my journey. Regrettably, the cancer that once seemed contained has now infiltrated my brain, revealing two tumors nestled on the left side. This unexpected development has made daily activities like maintaining my speech and balance a considerable challenge.
She announced in August that the tumors, previously believed to be stationary, had started growing instead.
In the days leading up to my demise, as a lifestyle aficionado, I penned an article in The Mirror detailing my gradual improvement following a bout with double pneumonia. However, just two days after sharing my optimism, I found myself urgently admitted to the hospital due to persistent respiratory issues.
Nevertheless, Linda – famed for her lively and cheerful demeanor – found it difficult to comply with the advice of resting, even while hooked up to oxygen, as her humor continued to brighten the spirits of those nearby.
Instead of heeding the medical guidance to rest, she opted to devote her last moments to sharing joy and causing laughter among others.
Following her passing, Linda’s sister Denise, aged 72, pondered over the vibrant enthusiasm for life that her sister Linda consistently displayed. She reminisced about how Linda cherished each moment and created a lasting impression with her affection, wit, and radiant spirit.
Speaking with the Mirror, Denise shared details of her sister’s final hours before passing. “She was filled with laughter and humor,” Denise said, “even though the medical team advised her to keep silent during treatment. There was a quiet optimism among us all since she appeared so cheerful.
‘Then at 3.30am on Tuesday, we got the dreaded call, ‘Get to the hospital asap’.’
Linda, in the years preceding her passing, meticulously arranged her own funeral details, including a shimmering pink casket adorned with glitter.
In her autobiography From The Heart published in 2018, she expressed: ‘I aim to settle all my personal matters neatly, as one often says. I’ve put my family through enough anxiety throughout the years, and so I want to make decisions about everything now, if I should fall severely ill, to spare them any further concern.’
She mentioned: “I’ve decided on the tunes for my farewell service… I prefer There You’ll Be from Pearl Harbor, performed by Faith Hill.
‘The words couldn’t be more fitting for the moment when I’ll finally be going to meet Brian again.’
In 2007, the singer’s spouse, Brian Hudson, passed away due to complications from liver disease, following a diagnosis of skin cancer.
Linda wrote: ‘The tune they played at his funeral was the same one we used to joke about choosing for our own funerals, way back when we thought death was something that would never happen to us. Funny how times have shifted.’
‘She would have loved all the fuss today.’
