Upon hearing the heartbreaking news about the passing of Linda Nolan on their official account, I couldn’t help but express my deepest sorrow. We regretfully share the news that Linda Nolan, a beloved Irish pop icon, TV host, record-breaking West End performer, bestselling novelist, and renowned columnist for The Sunday Times and Daily Mirror, has sadly passed away.

Born into one of the most celebrated girl groups ever, The Nolans, Linda found international fame; making history as the first Irish artist to sell more than a million records globally. Her music tours took her around the world, and she sold over 30 million records, with hits like “Gotta Pull Myself Together,” “Attention to Me,” and the timeless disco favorite “I’m In The Mood for Dancing.

Her unique voice and captivating performance earned her adoration globally, cementing her status as a renowned symbol of British and Irish showbiz.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary journey of Linda. While her illustrious career is undeniably impressive, it’s her selfless dedication to bettering the lives of others that truly captivates me. This compassionate soul has tirelessly worked towards raising over £20 million for an array of charities, such as Breast Cancer Now, Irish Cancer Society, and Samaritans – just to name a few. Her unwavering commitment to these causes, along with countless others, is nothing short of inspiring.

During the weekend, Linda was transported in an ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where she was admitted due to a case of double pneumonia. At the crack of dawn on Tuesday, she slipped into a coma and began receiving end-of-life care, with her loving family by her side.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, January 15th, at approximately 10:20, she departed serenely, surrounded by her cherished siblings who stood vigil beside her bed. They offered their love and tranquility during her last moments, as she reached the age of 65.

Ever since I was part of the sensational girl group, The Nolan Sisters, back in the late ’70s, it’s been my life’s passion to entertain and bring joy through music. Our smash hit single, “I’m In The Mood For Dancing,” remains a testament to that unforgettable era when we took the world by storm!

Last week, Linda shared with The Mirror that she’s started feeling improved, having been unwell since Christmas, initially believing it was just a case of the flu.

In her last article for the publication, she penned down: ‘Doctors have confirmed it as a severe bout of the flu. Each step I took left me struggling to catch my breath.’

My legs felt shakier than normal, and despite my efforts not to, I found myself contemplating Bernie’s final moments. It’s a thought that crosses your mind, “Could this be it?” or something along those lines.

On Monday, I finally felt up to going out, and it seems like a completely different world outside. There’s something incredibly refreshing about recovering from an illness and regaining your health.

As a lifestyle guide, let me share some insight: It seems like you’ve lost touch with that familiar sense of ‘regular’ well-being. Allow me to rephrase it this way – it feels as though I’ve misplaced the everyday feeling of balance and healthiness.

In a heartfelt conclusion, she offered a suggestion that might resonate: Whilst I’m not one for setting resolutions, here’s a thought for the New Year: No common cold or flu will be able to bring me down.

In November, she shared that she hadn’t anticipated surviving till Christmas. This made the holiday season hold even greater significance for her.

She expressed her excitement: “I’m thrilled for Christmas! Honestly, I hadn’t anticipated celebrating this year, so it’s an extra special treat.

As a family, we eagerly anticipate Christmas, and this year we’re planning to congregate at Denise’s place. It promises to be delightful! The joy we share when we reunite is something I truly look forward to. I particularly cherish the moments with the little ones, witnessing their infectious excitement.

Coleen Nolan’s panelist sibling expressed her desire to join the family celebration again next year, and also shared a health update.

As a devoted admirer putting this into my own words, I’d say: Every three weeks, I’m enduring chemotherapy, followed by regular blood tests. If the test outcomes are favorable, I proceed with another cycle of treatment. Linda shared this journey with a publication, bravely baring her personal health struggles for all to see.

She noted: “Be mindful about chemotherapy. Once more, I’ve found myself without hair – making this the fifth time I’m bald, and it continues to impact me every time.

When it disappears, I feel deeply upset. As for physical discomfort, I experience a sharp, painful cramp in my leg, but fortunately, elsewhere, I don’t feel any pain, which is a positive aspect.

In spite of her ongoing health challenges, Linda maintained a positive outlook. She shared with the magazine that she’s battled cancer since 2005 and pledged to keep on fighting as long as her strength allowed.

On her sixtieth birthday, she expressed a wish to survive into the following year. Incredulously, against all expectations, she has now reached the age of sixty-five.

She stated: ‘If you give up on hope, you give up on everything. It can be challenging at times, but you must find the strength to say, “I won’t wallow in self-pity and get out of bed instead.”‘

Linda shared that she maintains a positive outlook by ensuring she stays active and spends time outdoors whenever possible.

I’d brave the biting chill of winter in my own backyard, just for a breath of that invigorating fresh air – it’s that rejuvenating!

It’s beneficial to both stay active indoors and get some outdoor time, even during the chilly seasons. Sitting outside in your garden can provide a breath of fresh air that often uplifts your mood.

Previously, Linda had informed us that a recent fall led her to understand she could no longer reside on her own, so she relocated to live with her sister instead.

She admitted that circumstances prevented her from going back to her own home, and although her stay with Denise and Tom was initially meant to be temporary, it’s been 18 months now since she moved in with them.

Linda’s update follows her heartfelt plea for cancer to cease troubling her family, made during an interview on Good Morning Britain in August.

Linda held back sobs as she voiced her appeal, bracing herself before embarking on treatment for the fifth occasion.

Linda initially got the “all clear” for breast cancer back in 2006, but she was eventually diagnosed with an incurable form of metastatic cancer in 2017.

In August, it was announced by Linda that the brain tumors she had been believed to be stationary, had actually started to increase in size.

On Google My Business, Linda disclosed that she had been placed on a fresh round of chemotherapy following an update, and also mentioned the possibility of losing her hair for a second time.

I couldn’t help but share that she openly disclosed the impact the persistent treatments were having on her pearly whites. She even showed a space where one of her teeth used to be, excitedly saying: “Check this out, I’ve got a gap now!

In the year 1981, Linda tied the knot with Brian Hudson, who at that time served as The Nolans’ tour manager, a couple of years following their initial encounter in 1979.

Ever since Linda departed the band, I found myself stepping up as her tour manager – a role that turned out to be more than just a job, it was a dream come true. We shared an unbreakable bond that lasted till his heart-wrenching departure due to liver failure in 2007.

Linda’s siblings, Colleen, Anne, and her late sister Bernie, have been affected by cancer as well. Colleen, Anne, and Linda were diagnosed with cancer, while Bernie tragically passed away due to this illness in 2013.

In 2000, it was Linda’s sibling, Anne, who was initially identified as having breast cancer. Fortunately, she received a clean bill of health after treatment. However, Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer once more in April 2020.

In just a few short days, Linda learned that her secondary breast cancer had progressed to her liver. As a result, her sisters opted to face their chemotherapy treatments side by side.
