Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers dead at 48 as iconic band pays tribute to ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ talent

Limp Bizkit’s bassist, Sam Rivers, died on October 18th at the age of 48. The band paid tribute to him with a heartfelt message.

It was with a heavy heart that I learned about the passing of Rivers today. The band shared the news on Instagram, and while we’re all deeply saddened, the cause of death hasn’t been released yet. It’s a tough time for everyone who loved his music, and we’re sending our condolences to his family and friends.

The message began, ‘With deep sadness, we remember our brother, Sam Rivers.’ It continued, ‘Today, we’ve lost not just a brother, but a cherished bandmate and the very heart of our music.’

John Rivers was one of the original members of Limp Bizkit, which first came together in 1994.

The band described Sam Rivers as more than just their bass player – he was incredibly talented and brought a special energy to their music. They said he was the driving force behind every song, a source of stability during hectic moments, and the heart of their sound.

From the very beginning, Sam’s playing had a unique energy and beat that no one could replicate. He was a naturally gifted musician with a memorable personality and a huge heart.

The group reminisced, ‘We had so many experiences together—some exciting, some peaceful, and all of them were made better by having Sam with us.’

They called Rivers ‘a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human’ as well as ‘a true legend of legends.’

‘And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory. We love you, Sam.’

Seriously, that message just *destroyed* me. “We’ll carry you with us, always.” Like, they’re going to keep his spirit alive in everything they do. And “Rest easy, brother”… ugh, it’s just so perfect. It hit me so hard knowing they felt that way about him. Then to say “Your music never ends”… it’s true! It *won’t* end. It’s going to live on forever. Seeing Fred, Wes, John, and DJ Lethal sign it with hearts… it just shows how much they loved him. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.
