From the team behind Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina comes a new story set in the same fascinating universe. Limbus Company is a single-player, turn-based RPG developed by Project Moon. You’ll explore a huge, broken city with a group of 12 unique characters, searching for the elusive Golden Boughs. Get ready for a compelling story and the challenges ahead! The game relies heavily on random chance, but you can learn to control it. This guide will help you understand how skills, buffs, and debuffs work in combat, so you can master Limbus Company’s battle system.

Understanding the Skills System in Limbus Company

The game features four main skill types: Offensive, Defensive, Evasive, and Counter. Before launching an attack, it’s important to consider a few key things. When choosing a skill, pay attention to the arrows. Yellow arrows indicate your advantage, red arrows favor your opponent, and blue arrows mean an attack will happen without opposition from either side.

Every character starts with 3 basic skills. You can unlock more skills by either getting a new character ID or increasing the tier of their current ID. A character’s level doesn’t change their skills, but upgrading their ID tier does make those skills more powerful. Both EGOs and character IDs can reach a maximum tier of 4.

How clashing works and how to get favorable results

Before a fight begins, it’s important to understand the current battle situation, which can range from you being in a strong position (Dominating) to being at a disadvantage (Hopeless), with stages like Favored, Neutral, and Struggling in between. If the battle state is Struggling or Hopeless, try changing the units or skills you’re using to fight. If you can’t, use a defensive skill – like Defense, Evasive maneuvers, or a Counterattack – to protect yourself.

Begin by making sure the timing is right for your attacks, then launch your sequence. Using attacks of the same type – or color – is helpful because they create team bonuses that will give you an edge in battles when your turn begins.

How sanity points, aka SP influences Clash wins and losses

Pay attention to your unit’s sanity! Each battle outside of dungeons begins with zero sanity. Winning fights restores sanity, and having high sanity increases your chances of winning more. If sanity drops too low, it can cause your unit to mistakenly attack your allies.

Many units with the ‘Sinking’ mechanic operate best with negative SP (Skill Points) to maximize their damage output, so keep that in mind. These units generally consume sanity faster than others, meaning you’ll often need to intentionally build a team around negative SP. It’s important to understand how their abilities and passives work, otherwise you might be confused why your damage seems low even with full SP.

Affinities are important, and here’s the reason why

As a big fan, let me tell you, building a strong team is all about affinity! Seriously, it’s super important in battles because you need the right affinity to use those awesome EGO skills. So when I’m putting my team together, I always make sure everyone works well together to get that favorable affinity. And here’s a tip: don’t just focus on attack! Even defensive skills can build up your affinity, so I like to switch things around each turn to make sure I’m ready to unleash those EGO skills when the time is right.

At the start of a battle, you’ll see your active passives displayed on the left side of the screen. You can check what’s needed to unlock the remaining passives – they’ll appear as dimmed icons. Keep in mind that passives are unlocked by leveling up your ID or EGO tiers (specifically tier 3 for EGO). Even Sinners who aren’t currently fighting will contribute their passives.

Types of statuses in Limbus Company and what they do

There are seven elemental statuses – Burn, Bleed, Rupture, Sinking, Poise, Tremor, and Charge – and three weapon attack types: Slash, Blunt, and Pierce. Always check an enemy’s resistances to ensure your attacks are effective.

Both enemies and your character have three levels of resistance: ineffective, normal, and fatal. I always suggest using attacks that deal fatal damage to enemies, but they can do the same to you. Remember that ‘Clashing Power’ also plays a role. When you use a special skill, you’ll see a notification on your character if the attack was effective.

Conclusion

Stay focused, work well with your team, and keep improving your characters’ abilities to overcome even the toughest parts of the game. It’s crucial to build a team with characters who share the same damage types, ensuring their status effects are strong enough to defeat enemies before they can act again.
