The remake of “Lilo & Stitch” has turned out to be one of Disney’s most profitable live-action movie adaptations, earning an impressive $914 million globally and still counting. Given this success, it was no shock when Disney announced that a sequel is under development, on none other than Stitch day (June 26). As a dedicated fan, I find myself pondering about two key aspects of the upcoming “Lilo & Stitch 2”.
Lilo & Stitch 2 Is Officially Happening
Stitch, along with his cute little pink car, played a part in sharing the exciting news that “Lilo & Stitch 2” is currently being worked on at Walt Disney Studios. Here’s a peek at their delightful announcement. Don’t forget to take a look!
In the Twitter video, Stitch confidently strolls into Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, causing a commotion and making his way through the grounds to spell out “Lilo & Stitch 2“. He shouted “Here we go!” as he went, giving the impression that this was an exciting start for the project. Nevertheless, it leaves room for speculation; while we presume many cast members from the original film will return, we are unsure who the creative minds are behind this sequel at present.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m eagerly wondering if Dean Fleischer Camp, the mastermind behind the live-action Lilo & Stitch, will be part of this project. Given the movie’s overwhelmingly positive hype, as evidenced in our own glowing Lilo & Stitch review, and the filmmakers navigating through a storm of fan feedback, it seems like we might be in for a fascinating ride, with the outcome being unpredictably exciting or potentially contentious.
However, there are two other questions that I’m really focused on.

I Have Two Questions About How They Are Going To Do The Sequel
As a film enthusiast, I’ve been pondering about something intriguing. Specifically, I’m wondering if the upcoming “Lilo & Stitch 2” will align with the actual second movie, “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch,” or perhaps “Stitch! The Movie.” Given that all subsequent Stitch productions were direct-to-video and leaned more towards TV movies rather than feature films, my curiosity is peaked. The original “Lilo & Stitch 2” released in 2005, saw Stitch returning to his programming, and it was the family he had found that helped him regain normalcy.
Prior to the release of that movie, there was another film titled “Stitch! The Movie” where a blue alien encountered several other experiment counterparts upon landing in Hawaii. This movie featured more of Gantu and a rodent-like antagonist named Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel. I wonder if either of these concepts would translate well into live-action. Will one of these be adapted, or will the sequel opt for an entirely new storyline instead?
In the hypothetical scenario where the main antagonist of the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch shifts from Gantu to Jumba, it’s intriguing to speculate whether Zach Galifianakis’ portrayal of Jumba would lean more towards the benevolent character he was in the animated films. This could prove useful if Stitch encounters a glitch. Despite many similarities between the remake and the original, there were significant alterations to the ending, such as Jumba continuing to be villainous and Lilo’s sister Nani attending college in San Diego, California. Given these changes, it’s possible that the creators of this live-action sequel might decide to explore an entirely new direction.
The creative minds behind Disney are likely discussing all these questions right now while I write this. As we uncover more details about the upcoming film Lilo & Stitch 2, we’ll make sure to keep you informed.
