Light & Wonder snags a vendor license in the UAE.
This year, Softswiss shared predictions about iGaming trends in 2025, revealing that The Game LLC had advertised positions for online casino and sports betting within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This move indicated a significant stride towards legalizing online casinos within the country. More recently, Light & Wonder, a gaming company based in Las Vegas, has announced it has secured a vendor license in the UAE, enabling both land-based and online gambling operations.
In recent times, significant developments have been unfolding covertly within the United Arab Emirates as they strive to inaugurate their first legal online casino. Since July 2024, when The Game LLC was awarded an exclusive national lottery license by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the UAE government has been progressively setting the groundwork for a supervised digital gaming market.
Light & Wonder is all set to supply games to licensed betting operators in the UAE
According to Gambling Insider, the vendor license grants Light & Wonder authorization to offer their collection of casino games – whether they’re for physical casinos or online platforms – to legally operating entities within the UAE. This encompasses gaming equipment like slot machines and table games, as well as essential tools and utilities.
In simpler terms, securing a license from the GCGRA represents a significant achievement for Light & Wonder, as they venture into one of the most eagerly awaited newly regulated markets worldwide, according to Matt Wilson, their President and CEO, in reference to this recent progress.
Additionally, he mentioned that they feel privileged to join the ranks of the initial approved vendors. They are dedicated to delivering their reliable, accountable, and player-centric attitude in the UAE.
It’s not the first time Light & Wonder is expanding globally. Besides the UAE, they have been providing their collection of games to licensed operators in various parts of Europe and North America as well.
To provide an update, the company has teamed up with BetMGM for the launch of the Wizard of Oz – Follow the Yellow Brick Road licensed video game in the U.S. states of New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ontario.
