- Tencent’s Light of Motiram is confirmed to not release before the fourth quarter of 2027.
- The freeze also blocks new trailers, tests, and promotions until the legal dust settles.
It looks like the game Light of Motiram is facing significant delays. The legal dispute between Sony and Tencent is likely to put the open-world survival game on hold for at least a few more years, potentially until 2028.
This news stems from a legal dispute with Sony, which started in July 2025. Sony claimed the game was too similar to its popular Horizon series. As a result of this, a recent court agreement on December 2, 2025, has delayed the game’s release until at least the fourth quarter of 2027.
Light of Motiram screams exciting potential for a blockbuster adventure-survival experience
While the legal issues are being resolved, Tencent is blocked from publicly promoting, showcasing, testing, or developing the game further. The next court hearing is set for January 29, 2026.

It was immediately obvious how similar the game was when developers first showed it to players last November. The artwork and how the game is played quickly reminded people of Horizon, and I’d already warned that it could be seen as a copy unless Tencent got the necessary permissions.
Despite the challenges, the game was starting to look really promising. The idea of a survival adventure in an open world, set in 2068 and featuring one-of-a-kind robotic creatures called Mechanimals, with the option to play with friends and a focus on discovery, is genuinely exciting.
Players particularly liked the game’s unique flavor, noticing an interesting inspiration from Indian culture in character names like Motiram, Hanuman, and Agni. Unfortunately, after a limited, invite-only test phase in China, the game has been shelved and no one has been able to play it since.
While the initial target for release was late 2027, a more realistic launch date is now expected in 2028, considering everything that still needs to be done. A quicker release could happen if current legal problems are resolved, but that’s not very likely, though we remain hopeful.
