Liev Schreiber Reveals His Emotional Response to Kai Coming Out as Trans

In a candid conversation, Liev Schreiber discussed his transgender daughter, Kai, sharing the profound impact of the moment she revealed her identity to him.

During an interview with Variety on Thursday, the actor from Ray Donovan, aged 57 and previously refuting accusations about his nepotism, spoke openly about the subject matter for the first time.

The prominent actor from Hollywood, who is known as an A-lister, has a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old son named Sasha with his former partner Naomi Watts. They were in a relationship from 2005 until their separation in 2016.

In his conversation with the media, he stated that Kai has consistently been herself. However, the most impactful moment, as he described it, was when she asked us to use different pronouns for her.

As far as I’m concerned, it wasn’t as significant an event to me because Kai has maintained such a strongly feminine persona for quite some time.

Schreiber praised the teenager’s courage and resilience, stating, “Kai truly embodies the spirit of a fighter. It’s powerful that she declares, ‘I am trans,’ and stands tall by saying, ‘Look at me,’ and assertively expressing, ‘Back off. Get lost.’

Regarding guidance for parents with children identifying as transgender, Liev put it straightforwardly, “I can’t offer an answer that suits your child.

He added that under the circumstances, he believed it would be inappropriate or going too far for him to act, since each situation is distinct and individual.

The actor, nonetheless, touched upon the topic of raising teenagers in general and remarked, “I suppose if I were to offer advice to someone struggling with a transgender teenager or an adolescent trans child, it would be ‘Teenagers can be challenging. They are difficult.’

It makes no difference if they are transgender or not, as you will emerge from this situation. However, it’s important to remember that a teenager who identifies as transgender is still just a teenager.

The actor from “The Perfect Couple” went on to say, ‘They can be such a nuisance most of the time, and Kai is not shy about expressing her opinions, she’s fiery and vocal.’

This coming Friday, Kai will join Schreiber and his spouse, Taylor Nielsen, at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place At The Table Gala, which is held in New York City.

The center aims to safeguard homeless young adults who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning, shielding them from the dangers of homelessness, and equipping them with the resources necessary for self-sufficiency. (According to their official website)

Approximately two months ago, Liev responded to accusations that Kai was a “nepotism baby” following her catwalk debut at Paris Fashion Week in March.

At the time, the teenager strutted on the catwalk for the luxurious brand Valentino. 

More recently, Kai was seen strolling around New York City’s streets during a photoshoot he was part of last month, specifically in April.

During an interview with TMZ in March, the actor stated, “I hardly think about those who criticize me. Suppose you were a professional actor and your child expressed a desire to make their mark on the world. How would you react?

Regardless of whether they have a choice or not, it’s ultimately her decision. She lives her life as she chooses to.

The man with three children commented, “I am incredibly proud of her and I believe she delivered an outstanding performance in the show.
