Liam Payne returns to singing contest roots in posthumous trailer for ‘Building the Band’

After a little over a year since his sudden passing in Argentina, the last television appearance of the renowned British pop singer Liam Payne is now approaching.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled the trailer for their upcoming vocal competition show, “Building the Band,” where the late One Direction member is among the guest judges. Debuting July 9, this series may provide solace to fans of Payne, who initially rose to fame as a contestant on the talent show “The X Factor.

In the introductory segment, Payne shares his insights with aspiring vocalists, emphasizing the importance of a strong emotional bond among them. As a singer himself, Payne was well-versed in the dynamics of group harmony: during his second stint on “The X Factor” in 2010, judges Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger chose to assemble him alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson to create One Direction. Although they didn’t win the competition, this quintet eventually became a renowned pop group famous for hits like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life.

According to Liam Payne’s statements and conversations with his peers and colleagues, it becomes clear that the deceased pop star was a gifted individual grappling with addiction amidst the glare of fame.

In “Building the Band,” Payne teams up with Scherzinger again, where she takes on the roles of both judge and mentor. Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland makes occasional appearances as a guest judge. AJ McLean, a fellow singer from Backstreet Boys and Payne’s friend, hosts the show. The series follows the journey of 50 vocalists as they collaborate with established musicians to create six bands.

Earlier this month, Netflix officially confirmed that Zac Payne will make a posthumous appearance in their upcoming series “Building the Band.” The production for this show was completed before Payne’s passing, and the singer’s family has given their support to continue with its release. In a statement to Deadline, Netflix shared that Payne’s family has reviewed the series and expressed their approval of his inclusion in it.

On October 16, Payne met with an unfortunate incident by falling from a balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, which resulted in his untimely death at the age of 31. An examination following his demise revealed that he succumbed to multiple injuries and bleeding, both inside and outside his body, as a consequence of the fall. In December, authorities disclosed that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system at the time of the incident.

A court in Argentina has overturned the manslaughter charges previously brought against a close acquaintance of Liam Payne, Roger Nores, who was accused by the prosecution last year.

Originally, two hotel employees and Payne’s friend, Rogelio “Roger” Nores, were among five individuals who faced charges related to the singer’s death, but these charges against them were dropped in February. The judges at the appellate court determined that Nores was not involved in procuring or consuming alcohol for Payne and could not have taken actions to prevent his death.

The last two individuals accused of providing drugs to Payne prior to his demise, who were indicted back in December, are set for a court trial, as reported recently.
