Liam Neeson’s action flop becomes a Netflix hit
As a longtime action movie enthusiast who has seen more than my fair share of Liam Neeson films, I must say that “Blacklight” has become an unexpected gem in my collection. Despite its initial box office struggles and less-than-stellar reviews, this underrated gem has found a new life on Netflix, becoming a global hit. The government conspiracy plotline, combined with Neeson’s brooding performance as Travis Block, makes for a thrilling watch that I wholeheartedly recommend to fellow action movie fans.
It’s a shame that us folks here in the UK and Ireland can’t easily access this hidden gem on Netflix, but fear not! If you’re determined to catch Neeson in action, you might want to consider subscribing to NOW TV or Sky Cinema.
Now, for a little holiday humor, it seems that every year we get a new “Die Hard”-inspired movie, and this year is no exception with “Carry-On.” While I’m not sure if it qualifies as a Christmas movie, I can confirm that it makes for an exciting airport thriller. Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman deliver solid performances, and the mystery bag on flight premise keeps you guessing till the end. So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy this festive addition to the “Die Hard” genre!
Despite a relatively poor performance at the theater upon its release, Liam Neeson’s action film “Blacklight” has since gained unexpected popularity on Netflix.
2022’s joint U.S.-Australian production stars Liam Neeson as Travis Block, a former Vietnam soldier turned FBI troubleshooter, who stumbles upon a hidden political scheme within the government.
In spite of underperforming at movie theaters and receiving predominantly unfavorable reviews (with a 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the film by Ozark’s creator, Mark Williams, managed to secure the fifth position among the most-watched movies globally on Netflix over the past week.
In seventeen different nations across Central and South America, Blacklight is currently leading as the most-watched movie on the streaming platform this week. Some of these countries include Guatemala, Honduras, Argentina, and Bolivia, among others.
If you’re on this side of the pond and wondering if Liam Neeson will once again take on a brooding role in “Blacklight”, you might need to adjust your viewing plans as the film isn’t currently streaming on Netflix UK and Ireland. But fear not, NOW TV and Sky Cinema subscribers can watch the movie on their respective platforms.
Holiday seasons consistently see a surge in popularity for action films, and this year is no exception. The “Die Hard” style of Christmas movies has expanded its collection with the addition of the airport-themed thriller titled “Carry-On“.
For the third consecutive week, the movie starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman remains one of the most popular titles on Netflix.
In a remarkable 53 nations, the top movie for the streamer is “Carry-On,” featuring Egerton in the role of Ethan – a laid-back Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer working at Los Angeles International Airport. On a typical Christmas Eve, Ethan’s routine shift takes an unforeseen and risky turn.
Following receiving an earpiece, Ethan gets in touch with a mercenary called The Traveller (Bateman), who instructs him to allow a secret package on board a plane.
Carry-On is available to stream on Netflix.
