I’m really enjoying Liam Neeson’s new Naked Gun reboot, it’s already a hit on Prime Video! But if you want to see the movie that really launched him as an action star, Hulu’s got you covered. Honestly, Taken could have easily been just another 80s action throwback, but it ended up being one of his biggest films, and it’s been copied so much over the last twenty years – it’s a total classic!
Liam Neeson had already achieved success in films like Star Wars, the drama Schindler’s List, and the comedy Love Actually. However, Taken redefined how directors viewed him. The movie established Neeson as an actor capable of convincingly playing tough, action-oriented characters with the perfect blend of intensity and grit. Now, Taken is available to stream again, this time on Hulu.
The film Taken features Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills, a retired CIA operative who springs into action when his daughter is kidnapped. He delivers a now-famous, intimidating threat to the kidnappers and relentlessly pursues them to rescue her. Directed by Pierre Morel, the movie successfully blended a heartfelt story about a father’s love with thrilling action, becoming a massive hit with audiences. Neeson reprised his role as Mills in two Taken sequels, which weren’t well-received by critics, but the original film revitalized his career later in life.
I have to admit, when Taken first came out, critics were pretty split on it – it only got a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But honestly, the audience loved it! They gave it an 85% rating, and that’s what really mattered. It went on to make over $226 million worldwide on a tiny $25 million budget! It was incredible to see, and it definitely cemented Liam Neeson as the go-to action hero for the decade, and honestly, he still is!
Liam Neeson Could Be Stepping Back from Action Roles

I’ve noticed Liam Neeson’s been talking for a while now about wanting to move away from all the action roles, and wanting to do that before audiences start really seeing him slow down – you know, the inevitable signs of age. It’s amazing, honestly, considering he’s in his 70s, he’s been pumping out multiple films a year! But it sounds like he’s starting to shift gears, and he’s doing it in a really fun way with The Naked Gun coming out in 2025.
Stepping into the shoes of the late Leslie Nielsen was a challenge, but Liam Neeson successfully blended his tough-guy image with silly humor to revive the beloved Naked Gun series after many years. Although Neeson has expressed he’s unlikely to appear in future installments, anything is possible, and fans might see Frank Drebin Jr. return to the big screen someday.
