Liam Hemsworth compares taking over The Witcher to taking over Doctor Who

As a fan who’s been following The Witcher saga since its inception, I must say that the journey has been as thrilling and unpredictable as a monster-hunting adventure itself. Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt was nothing short of magnificent, but alas, all good things must come to an end.

Henry Cavill’s performance as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher proved to be a major triumph. Over three seasons, he skillfully portrayed the monster-slaying protagonist, eventually choosing to leave the role for reasons that remain somewhat unclear. It is rumored that Cavill was dissatisfied with the creative choices being made for the characters in the show, as they seemed to stray significantly from the original source material.

In a new twist, The Witcher series has moved forward by casting Liam Hemsworth as Geralt following Henry Cavill’s departure. As we approach the fourth season, it appears Hemsworth is a suitable choice for the role, but we’ll have to wait and see if he can match Cavill’s performance.

In his conversation with Collider, Hemsworth acknowledged that stepping into a popular show and replacing a beloved actor was challenging for him. He drew an analogy to the British science fiction series “Doctor Who”, where the main character is recast every few years to maintain freshness. He stated, “This was a very special circumstance that I believe only a handful of actors, perhaps those who have played Doctor Who characters throughout the years, can relate to, as primarily the rest of the cast has remained constant while the lead actor has changed.

For me, it felt like coming in and starting high school when everyone else is already friends and has relationships with each other and has been there since the beginning. At times you kind of feel like an outsider, and it’s nothing like any of the cast or crew has treated me in that way. Everyone has been nothing but welcoming and extremely aware of what the situation is.

It seems like he underestimates it a bit when he claims that few actors have gone through this situation. While there’s certainly Doctor Who, we also can’t forget about James Bond. Even Game of Thrones had quite a few character recasts, from Daario Naharis to the Mountain. In other words, Liam Hemsworth, you’re not the only one who’s been in this position.

The Witcher season 4 filming is nearly complete!

The filming for season 4 of “The Witcher” is approaching its final stages, as Hemsworth shared with ET that he’s left with just three more weeks of production. He’s been in the UK since January and is eagerly looking forward to it, stating that it’s been an enjoyable shoot.

He continued to laud the cast, who warmly received him. “The entire cast and team have been fantastic. I used to be an avid gamer of the video game years ago, and it’s thrilling for me to portray this character,” he further stated.

As for when “The Witcher” season 4 will air, Netflix hasn’t specified a date just yet, but it’s anticipated that it will debut in Summer 2025. Interestingly, they’re shooting seasons 4 and 5 simultaneously, so there might not be much of a gap between the two. And here’s some good news for fans: season 5 is set to conclude the series.
