Liam Gallagher’s doppelganger son Gene is supported by rarely seen cousin Sonny, 15, as Oasis siblings converge for his band’s intimate London show

On Monday night in London, Gene Gallagher, son of famous musician Liam Gallagher, showed he inherited his father’s talent during a small concert with his band.

Liam Gallagher’s youngest son showed off a bit of his father’s stage presence when he performed with the indie band Villanelle at The Lexington in London. This came shortly after the band put out their first song.

Although Liam couldn’t be there to see the band perform, Gene, age 24, had support from his older brother, Lennon, and his cousin Sonny – who is Noel Gallagher’s son from his marriage to Sara MacDonald and isn’t often seen publicly.

Oh my gosh, it was AMAZING! Not only did I see Gene and the band absolutely kill it on Monday, but Sonny’s sister, Anais – you know, Noel’s daughter from his first marriage to Meg Matthews – was there too! She was right there with her brother, cheering him on. It was a family affair and honestly, it made the whole night even more special. I couldn’t believe my eyes!

Sonny, a 15-year-old who recently joined Instagram in October, was spotted intently watching a lively concert from near the stage, standing with his sister. He was filmed to share the footage with his social media followers.

Anais, 25, posted a video clip from the show and praised her cousin, calling him a ‘legend’.

Oh my gosh, did you SEE Lennon’s post? It absolutely broke my heart and made me so happy all at once! He posted this little video and just said, ‘My heart bleeds for you, I’m so so so proud of you.’ It’s just… everything. He’s always been so supportive, and seeing that message just proves how much they mean to each other. I’m seriously tearing up just thinking about it!

Villanelle, a band featuring Gallagher (vocals and guitar), Ben Taylor (guitar), Jack Schiavo (bass), and Andrew Richmond (drums), released their first single, “Hinge,” in September.

Gallagher said ‘Hinge’ explores feelings of anxiety stemming from not getting enough sleep, and jokingly admitted he was likely suffering from a hangover when he wrote it.

In a recent interview with NME, Schiavo explained that the band’s sound comes from blending grunge, shoegaze, punk, and alternative rock. She described this combination as the core of their music.

Ben draws inspiration from classic English alternative rock, while I’m more influenced by the rock music of the 60s and 70s. Gene’s style leans towards 90s American rock. Our combined sound comes from where those influences meet.

‘I’m bringing Black Sabbath, Gene’s bringing Nirvana, Ben’s bringing Arctic Monkeys.’ 

Villanelle started performing live shows in 2024 and gained a lot of attention after opening for Gene’s father on his tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘Definitely Maybe’.

Earlier this year, the reunited Oasis embarked on a world tour celebrating their iconic ‘Live ’25’ performance, sharing the stage with established indie bands like Cast and Richard Ashcroft as supporting acts.

The Daily Mail reported that Gene and his cousin, Anaïs, were key in bringing the brothers back together for a tour – their first performance in 15 years.

Spending time with his youngest son has strengthened Liam’s bond with him. A source revealed that Liam was impressed by how much younger fans love Oasis songs, noting that many weren’t even alive when the band broke up.

Noel and Liam Gallagher recently realized their children hadn’t really seen them together before. They decided they didn’t want to delay showing their kids what made them such a successful and famous band.

Interestingly, Liam’s son with his first wife, Patsy Kensit, named Lennon, and Lennon’s band, Automotion, weren’t asked to perform as an opening act for their father, Gene.

In 2019, when talking about his sons’ bands, the singer explained that they were both starting out and subtly checking each other out as potential rivals. Gene and Lennon each had their own small band and were figuring out how they’d compete with one another.

Lennon’s music has a relaxed, atmospheric quality, similar to early Verve. Gene’s sound, on the other hand, is more energetic and direct, reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys. I definitely recommend checking them both out!
