Thunderbolts* actor Lewis Pullman is joining his father in an unexpected sequel to an ’80s classic.
In a humorous video shared by Amazon MGM Studios, veteran filmmaker Mel Brooks playfully mocks the number of installments some franchises have, before unveiling plans for the long-awaited sequel: “Spaceballs 2”.

According to additional information from The Hollywood Reporter, Brooks reprises his role as Yogurt, while Bill Pullman makes a comeback as Lone Starr. It is revealed that the younger Pullman, who will be playing Starburst, is the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa, portrayed by Daphne Zuniga, who is also reprising her role.
Starburst will be one of three lead characters, alongside Keke Palmer as Destiny.
In the production, Josh Gad assumes the role of the third main character. Additionally, he collaborates with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez in scriptwriting duties.
Rick Moranis, who’s been away from live-action films for quite some time, is set to reprise his role as Dark Helmet. In a teaser video, we get a quick glimpse of his iconic helmet adorned with a cigarette.
In a humorous nod, the concept of a sequel to “Spaceballs” was playfully hinted at in the original movie. Yogurt casually suggested to other characters that they might someday embark on an adventure titled “Spaceballs 2: The Hunt for More Money“. Over time, Moranis humorously mentioned considering a different title for it, namely “Spaceballs 3: The Quest for Spaceballs 2.
Currently, neither the name nor a summary of the upcoming film has been disclosed. Nevertheless, given the hint from the announcement video, there’s ample material from the Star Wars universe for it to spoof, starting from the first Spaceballs movie in 1987.
Spaceballs 2 is set for a theatrical release in 2027.
