Lesley Manville’s returning BBC drama confirms release date with trailer

Oh, the joyous news that has graced my ears today! The return of Lesley Manville in the gripping BBC drama series, “Sherwood,” is like a ray of sunshine piercing through the grey clouds of lockdown boredom. Having binge-watched “The Crown” and “The Walking Dead” myself (and let’s not forget my brief stint as a miner during the 80s miners’ strike – just kidding, I was born in ’92!), I can hardly contain my excitement for this present-day drama set in the heart of Nottingham.

Lesley Manville’s acclaimed BBC drama series Sherwood has confirmed its second-season release date.

As a passionate television enthusiast who has been following British dramas for years, I am thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming six-part story on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Having grown up watching BBC’s exceptional productions, I can confidently say that this new series promises to deliver high-quality entertainment. The trailer alone was enough to pique my interest, leaving me eagerly anticipating its premiere on Sunday, August 25.

In this contemporary drama, the cast features Lesley Manville from “The Crown” and David Morrissey known for “The Walking Dead.” The story unfolds within a community that remains fractured due to the miner’s strike of the 1980s.

In the second series of “Sherwood,” we encounter two fresh families, whose fates intertwine dangerously with the notorious Sparrow group. Tensions escalate as they face gang conflicts and rekindled feuds that jeopardize everyone involved.

Meanwhile, the recently appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is working hard to prevent the commencement of a new mine in the region, as this move could potentially rekindle the deep-rooted divisions within the community that have persisted for over 30 years by stirring up old tensions.

The second installment introduces the return of Sparrow family members Philip Jackson, previously seen in “Raised by Wolves,” Perry Fitzpatrick from “Line of Duty,” and Lorraine Ashbourne known for her role in “Bridgerton.” These veterans will be joined by a fresh batch of new faces.

Among the new additions to the cast, we have Aisling Loftus from “A Discovery of Witches,” Jorden Myrie from “Bridgerton,” Conor Deane from “All Creatures Great and Small,” and Bethany Asher from “The Dumping Ground” (and others).

In the second season of “Sherwood,” renowned directors Clio Barnard, known from “The Essex Serpent,” and Tom George, recognized from “This Country,” will take the helm. Notably, the series creator James Graham, who has previously worked on shows like “The Crown” and “Quiz,” will return for another installment.

In the inaugural season of “Sherwood,” actor Adeel Akhtar received the award for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA TV Awards. Notably, the series was also recognized in the categories of Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress (Lesley Manville).

As a dedicated fan of British television, I’m thrilled to share the exciting news that the second series of Sherwood will be premiering on my beloved BBC! Having grown up watching BBC programming and being captivated by its unique storytelling style, I can confidently say that this upcoming show is not to be missed. The premiere is set for Sunday, August 25 at 9pm on both BBC iPlayer and BBC One, with episode two following suit on Monday, August 26, at the same time. With episodes airing weekly on Sundays and Mondays for three weeks, I’m eagerly anticipating the continuation of this captivating series. Whether you’re a seasoned Sherwood fan or new to the show, mark your calendars and join me in tuning into BBC for this unforgettable viewing experience!
