Leonardo DiCaprio’s real-life serial killer movie is happening again

After over a decade since its initial announcement, the Leonardo DiCaprio film based on a true-life serial killer story is once again moving forward with production.

The film, inspired by Erik Larson’s factual book titled “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness At The Fair That Changed America,” was initially unveiled in 2010, with Leonardo DiCaprio expected to both star in and produce the movie.

Previously, the eagerly anticipated project welcomed director Martin Scorsese to its roster in 2015. Recently, it’s been announced that 20th Century Studios has joined forces with the project, and both Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese remain involved.

The narrative centers around Dr. HH Holmes, a suspected serial killer, who allegedly claimed the lives of hundreds of victims within his notorious World’s Fair Inn located in Chicago.

At the 1893 World’s Fair, commonly known as the Columbian Exposition, Holmes concealed his heinous acts by using the event to secretly murder his victims within the hotel. This structure housed a gas chamber, dissection table, and crematorium, earning it the chilling moniker of his ‘Murder Castle’.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the upcoming movie, but at this moment, there isn’t a finalized script yet. However, it was initially rumored that Leonardo DiCaprio would bring the chilling character of homicidal Dr. Holmes to life on the big screen.

In addition to acting, the performer will team up with his collaborator Jennifer Davisson in a joint production under their company, Appian Way. On the other hand, Scorsese assumes dual roles as director and producer, while Stacey Sher and Rick Yorn are also involved in the production process.

Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the book’s rights as early as 2010, and ever since then, he and Martin Scorsese have been working diligently on bringing this project to life over the past few years.

2022 saw the beloved story I’m a fan of getting a TV adaptation on Hulu, with the talented Keanu Reeves in the lead role. Excitingly, an eight-episode series was planned for a 2024 release, but unfortunately, it never materialized.
