The 83rd Golden Globe Award nominations are out, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is the current favorite with nine nominations. These include nods for Best Comedy Motion Picture, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson), Best Actor in a Comedy (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Actress in a Comedy (Chase Infiniti), two Best Supporting Actor awards (for Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn), Best Supporting Actress (Teyana Taylor), Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. Sinners also received a lot of attention, earning seven nominations.
Some surprising omissions from the nominations included Wicked: For Good, which didn’t receive a Best Musical or Comedy nod despite nominations for its stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning was recognized with a Box Office Achievement Award, while higher-grossing films like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps were overlooked. Interestingly, Avatar: Fire and Ash received a Box Office Achievement nomination even though it hadn’t been released yet. Despite previous nominations for both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, the latest installment didn’t receive a Best Motion Picture Drama nomination.
