Leonardo DiCaprio couldn’t attend the Palm Springs International Film Festival because travel restrictions were put in place following U.S. military action in Venezuela.
The 51-year-old actor was seen enjoying a New Year’s Eve vacation on Jeff Bezos’ yacht near St. Barts in the Caribbean.
Early Saturday morning, Venezuela was subjected to a military operation by the United States. During this operation, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken into custody and transported to New York.
Flights to and from the Caribbean have been disrupted, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s plans to attend the Palm Springs film festival are now in doubt.
He was going to be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, One Battle After Another, a darkly humorous story about left-wing activists.
According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, organizers announced at the event that Leonardo DiCaprio was unable to attend due to flight restrictions in the area.
“It was a truly special moment,” a source told the Daily Mail. “His colleagues paid a lovely tribute, and the video montage was fantastic.”
DiCaprio accepted the award through a video message, and it was very well-received, according to a source. He received applause not only for the award itself, but also for what he said.
Deadline confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio will not be attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival in person, according to a statement from the festival.

He couldn’t make it to the festival, but his “One Battle After Another” co-stars, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti, performed in his honor and accepted his award for him on Saturday.
One Battle After Another is receiving a lot of awards season buzz, leading the pack with the most Golden Globe nominations of any film released in the last year.
The movie boasts a fantastic cast, featuring stars like Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Benicio Del Toro, along with musician Alana Haim and veteran comedy writer Jim Downey, who famously worked with Norm Macdonald on Weekend Update.
Leonardo DiCaprio spent New Year’s Eve relaxing on Jeff Bezos’ yacht with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Vittoria Ceretti, near St. Barts.
He displayed his noticeably slimmer physique while enjoying the Caribbean sun, a transformation that’s been widely reported over the last year.
