Leo Woodall breaks silence on “dream” Lord of the Rings role

Leo Woodall has spoken about landing a role in the upcoming Lord of the Rings film, describing it as a “dream come true.” He recently joined the cast of The Hunt for Gollum, a story set before the events of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, which follows the quest to find Gollum before he can tell Sauron where the One Ring is hidden.

The actor known for One Day will play a new character named Halvard, who is one of the Dúnedain. Details about the role are currently being kept secret.

Woodall shared with People magazine that joining the franchise is a dream come true, saying it “means everything” to him.

Having loved this movie since childhood and watched it countless times, being involved with it now feels amazing, he said.

In addition to Woodall, the film has cast Jamie Dornan as Strider, also known as Aragorn – a role previously played by Viggo Mortensen – and Kate Winslet as Marigol.

What to Read Next

Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Lee Pace (Thranduil), and Andy Serkis (Gollum/Smeagol) are all returning for more adventures after appearing in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films. Serkis will also direct this time.

Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens (who worked on the original films), Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou are writing the screenplay. Peter Jackson, the director of the original trilogy, is producing.

Andy Serkis recently shared with ScreenRant that the project stays true to the established story, world, and overall vision of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Playing this feels exactly like being in a Middle-earth movie, that’s for sure. But what’s really cool is they’re diving deep into Gollum’s head – really exploring what makes him tick. It’s a fascinating blend of epic adventure and psychological study, and honestly, it feels like they’re walking a really fine line to pull it all off.

Next up, Woodall appears in Tuner, a film where he plays a piano tuner with incredibly sensitive hearing. This talent catches the eye of criminals who believe he could be a great safe-cracker. But his involvement in their schemes puts a potential relationship with a music student named Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu) at risk.

The movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was directed and co-written by Daniel Roher.

The new film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, is scheduled to come out on December 17, 2027. Meanwhile, Tuner will be available in UK cinemas starting May 29th.
