Animated Movies KPop Demon Hunters Fans Must See

Belle (2021)
I absolutely loved Belle! It’s a gorgeous anime film from 2021 that takes inspiration from Beauty and the Beast, but with a really cool sci-fi twist. It follows a shy high schooler who’s dealing with a lot of pain, and she finds a way to express herself as a virtual pop star. The music is incredible and really drives the story. It’s about finding your voice and being brave enough to help someone you love, even when you’re hurting. The animation is breathtaking, and the whole thing is just so emotional and beautifully done – the soundtrack has stayed with me ever since!

Perfect Blue (1997)
Okay, let me tell you, Perfect Blue is seriously amazing, but it’s definitely not for kids! This anime film from 1998 is a mind-bending psychological thriller that really gets under your skin. It follows a J-pop singer who decides to become an actress, and things quickly go downhill. She starts to feel paranoid and lose touch with reality as a dangerous stalker begins to harass her. It’s a brilliant, but terrifying look at fame, obsession, and what happens when you lose yourself.

Over the Moon (2020)
Released on Netflix in 2020, Over the Moon tells the story of a young girl who journeys to the moon to find the legendary moon goddess, Chang’e. She hopes to prove her mother’s memory will live on. Inspired by a traditional Chinese tale, the movie is filled with vibrant animation and upbeat songs, but at its heart, it’s a touching story about dealing with loss, the strength of family, and finding hope after difficult times.

Turning Red (2022)
Released in 2022, Turning Red is a lively coming-of-age story about a Chinese Canadian girl who magically turns into a giant red panda when she feels strong emotions—a clever way to represent the changes of puberty. The film is full of bright, energetic animation, explores themes of friendship and accepting yourself, and features fun pop music from the made-up Y2K boy band, 4*Town.

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
Laika Studios’ 2016 film, Kubo and the Two Strings, is a beautifully animated fantasy adventure set in feudal Japan. It follows a young boy’s incredible quest to protect his family with the help of a magical instrument. The film is filled with touching moments, stunning music, and draws heavily from Japanese folklore, seamlessly combining exciting action with a heartwarming story about family and forgiveness.

Nimona (2023)
Nimona is a fun and imaginative animated movie based on the popular graphic novel. It tells the story of Nimona, a teenage shapeshifter who doesn’t fit in, and a knight trying to redeem himself. Together, they uncover a dangerous secret in their kingdom. This 2023 Netflix film is set in a unique world that blends medieval and futuristic elements, and features vibrant animation and exciting action. At its heart, Nimona is a touching story about being yourself, accepting others, and fighting against prejudice.

Big Hero 6 (2014)
Big Hero 6 is a vibrant Disney film set in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo. The story centers on a brilliant young inventor who, after losing his brother, creates a team of high-tech heroes. Along with Baymax, a heartwarming healthcare robot, they discover a dangerous scheme threatening their city. Inspired by the Marvel Comics team of the same name, the 2014 film blends exciting action with memorable characters and a touching story about loss and the importance of family.

Trolls World Tour (2020)
2020’s Trolls World Tour is the most cheerful movie on this list. It follows Poppy and Branch as they work to stop Barb, a rock queen, from eliminating all other types of music and taking over the troll world. This brightly colored and fast-paced musical is visually similar to a vibrant children’s art project and features a happy cast of characters, including country trolls inspired by centaurs and a K-pop girl group with voices provided by the real-life band Red Velvet.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the story of Miles Morales, a teenager from Brooklyn who becomes the Spider-Man of his dimension. He joins forces with Spider-People from other universes to stop a villain who threatens to destroy everything. The movie, released in 2018 to widespread praise, is known for its unique animation that looks like a living comic book. But what truly makes it special are its engaging characters and its message about finding the extraordinary within yourself.

White Snake (2019)
Inspired by the classic Chinese story “The Legend of the White Snake,” the 2019 animated film White Snake tells the story of a snake demon who turns into a woman to carry out a mission, but forgets who she is after a fight. A snake catcher saves her, and they fall in love, which causes trouble between the human and demon worlds. This beautifully animated fantasy explores themes of free will, sacrifice, and love that’s considered wrong, but it contains some mature content, so it’s probably not suitable for children.
