LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – All 7 Playable Characters, Ranked

Fans are eagerly awaiting LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a new game from TT Games that lets players control a variety of characters, not just Batman. It’s a celebration of everything Batman, and you can play the entire adventure solo or with a friend in co-op mode.

The upcoming LEGO Batman game will tell a brand new story with lots of familiar faces from the DC universe, drawing on iconic moments from Batman’s history. While not every DC character will be playable, Legacy of the Dark Knight will initially focus on a select group of Batman’s allies, with more characters becoming available after the game launches. The characters shown so far look like they’ll be fun to play as.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming to PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on May 29th. A version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is also in development and will be released at a later date.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s Most Anticipated Playable Characters

7. Jim Gordon

Jim Gordon, Gotham City’s police chief, will play a much bigger role this time around, going from a helpful ally to a full partner and playable character alongside Batman. Players can even try him out early, as he’s featured in the first demo for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Each character you can play as in the Batman family moves around and fights in their own way. Gordon, for example, uses a glider to get around Gotham and a special foam gun for battles and solving puzzles. Although he’s a valuable partner to Batman, Gordon doesn’t have the same level of extraordinary abilities as some of the other characters you can control.

6. Talia al Ghul

Talia al Ghul, a frequent love interest of Batman, will be a playable character in the upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight game. While details are scarce about her specific role, her connection to the League of Shadows suggests she’ll have impressive ninja skills, making her an exciting character to control.

5. Nightwing

Nightwing is a key part of the Batman family. Originally Batman’s first Robin, he later became a hero in his own right, adopting the name Nightwing. He’s famous for fighting with electrified escrima sticks, and you can see him using them in the game’s trailers.

The trailers for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight suggest the game will show the complete story of Nightwing, starting with his time as Robin. We see glimpses of a young Robin using escrima sticks and another version with a grappling hook, hinting at his development over time.

4. Robin

Although Robin and Nightwing might seem like the same character, the game developers have confirmed there are seven characters you can play. Since both Robin and Nightwing are on that list, it’s likely they’ll be distinct characters in the game, meaning we’ll see both Dick Grayson and another version of Robin – potentially Jason Todd or Tim Drake – in the story.

TT Games highlighted that Robin will have a special grappling hook-like device called the Line Launcher, which was shown in gameplay footage being used to knock enemies down. Both Robin and Nightwing are agile and enjoyable to play in fights, but so far, Robin appears to offer more gameplay variety and is therefore more exciting to control than Nightwing.

3. Batgirl

Completing the core Bat Family team is Batgirl, also known as Barbara Gordon. The new LEGO game confirms she’s a tech expert, shown using a laptop to play minigames and hack through locked doors and gates. While we don’t know the full extent of her hacking skills in the game yet, they definitely open up a lot of possibilities.

In DC comics, Batgirl later transforms into Oracle, and if the game mirrors that storyline, it could open up new powers and skills for her character.

2. Catwoman

I’m so excited that Catwoman is a playable character in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight! They really nailed her character in the Arkham games, letting us play as her was a blast, and it looks like TT Games has taken a lot of inspiration from those games for this new LEGO title. I have a feeling she’ll be just as fun to control here!

Catwoman’s known for her cat-like movements, and in the game, she’ll fight using a whip. Trailers also showed she has a cool stealth move: she can use a laser pointer to call on cats and send them after her enemies.

1. Batman

Batman is the main character and has the widest range of skills and tools. He uses gadgets like Batarangs, a grapple gun, and explosive gel – all inspired by classic DC comics. In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, he can also drive the Batmobile and Batbike, and unlock many different Batsuits.

While Batman has plenty of fun allies, it’s hard to beat the Dark Knight in his own game.
