Legendary jeweller Sir Michael Hill dies aged 86
Noted New Zealand jewelry tycoon Michael Hill, age 86, passed away following a cancer diagnosis in April.
In April, the businessman who hails from New Zealand chose to resign from the board of Michael Hill Jewellers, in order to concentrate on his wellbeing.
His death was confirmed by his company on Tuesday in a heartbreaking statement.
To start off, it’s worth noting that Sir Michael was well-known not just as a skilled jeweler, but also as an enterprising businessman, generous benefactor, and devoted family man.
As a devoted companion alongside my beloved wife, Lady Christine, I embarked on an incredible journey that transformed “Michael Hill” from a small-town venture in WhangÄrei, New Zealand, into a globally recognized jewelry retail empire extending its reach across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

In 1979, Michael Hill opened his initial jewelry store in WhangÄrei, establishing the foundation for a worldwide retail empire that now includes hundreds of locations.
Today, the brand operates 287 stores across Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Its headquarters are based in Brisbane and the corporation is listed on both the NZX and ASX.
