Al Michaels has been making play-by-play calls for prime time NFL games for 40 years.
He’ll play again this Saturday when the Chicago Bears face the Green Bay Packers in a playoff game. You can watch the NFC wild-card matchup on Amazon Prime Video.
It won’t be his last.
Al Michaels will be back to announce NFL games on Prime Video next season, the streaming service announced Friday. The 81-year-old broadcasting legend has been the voice of “Thursday Night Football” on Prime Video, working alongside Kirk Herbstreit, since the streaming service began showing the games in 2022.

I still remember being amazed when I learned that Al Michaels was actually at the very first Super Bowl, just as a fan! Now, to think he’ll be calling his eleventh Super Bowl this February at SoFi Stadium… it’s incredible to witness such a legendary career come full circle.
Al Michaels originally had a three-year contract with Amazon that ended after 2024. He then worked this past season on a one-year deal. In November, he told Sports Illustrated he’d be interested in coming back in 2026 if Amazon wanted him.
Michaels acknowledged that the team could decide to go in a different direction, and he understands that’s a possibility. However, right now, he’s feeling positive about his work and enjoys working with his colleagues. As of mid-November, he’s hoping to continue in his current role.

Sam Farmer is predicting the winners of the NFL’s wild-card games. He believes the Rams will win against the Panthers, and the Packers will defeat the Bears.
Early in his career, Michaels worked briefly with broadcasting legend Chick Hearn on Lakers radio in 1967. He’s since become known for announcing many iconic sports moments, most famously his call of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s stunning victory over the Soviet Union: “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”
For decades, Michaels was the iconic voice of NFL football on television, calling games on ABC’s “Monday Night Football” from 1986 to 2005 and then on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” from 2006 to 2021. He’s announced 11 Super Bowls throughout his career, most recently covering the Rams’ victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium.
