Legendary 90s pop singer Kavana looks unrecognisable years on from drinking aftershave during his ‘crippling alcohol addiction battle’

Kavana, the pop singer known from the 90s, looks very different now after overcoming a severe alcohol addiction. He previously struggled with the addiction so much that he even resorted to drinking aftershave.

Anthony Kavanagh, a 47-year-old singer, became well-known for songs like “I Can Make You Feel Good” and “Crazy Chance.”

Kavana recently shared a photo on Instagram that showed how much he’s changed since struggling with addiction.

Okay, so like, I’ve been following him for *years*, and honestly, seeing him three years sober is just… everything. He’s been so brave, just completely laying it all out there about his addiction and how hard he’s fought to get better. It’s not just a comeback, it’s a whole new level of respect, you know? I’m seriously so proud of him and how open he is about the whole thing.

Kavana looked healthy and in shape in recent photos he shared before appearing on a podcast.

He cut a stylish figure in black wax jacket and green cap as he beamed next to his pal Emily Dean.

Anthony, once known as the popular, approachable teen idol, has recently been open about the difficulties he faced with fame, having achieved success at a very young age – only 16.

In his recently released autobiography, Pop Scars, he openly shared the difficulties he faced and the negative aspects of becoming famous.

In the book, he admitted to drinking aftershave at the height of his alcohol and drug addiction.

He discovered another cabinet filled with fragrances, ranging from brands like Tom Ford and Dior. However, he noticed that every bottle had a spray nozzle, which seemed unnecessary.

‘Then at the far back I see a half empty bottle of Joop, no spray attached and totally drinkable.’

I just sat there for a moment, picturing the scene like it was from a film – a really sad, struggling guy desperately drinking aftershave in a fancy bathroom in Los Angeles. It was a powerfully bleak image that stuck with me.

‘I laugh at my reflection, what a joke, except the punchline is my life.

The flavor is incredibly strange – imagine a bizarre mix of melted plastic, something intensely sour like battery acid, and the sweetness of marzipan. It’s hard to even describe!

‘I immediately gag, my body repulsed against yet another foreign liquid, but I force it down.’

Following the end of his pop music career, Anthony remained in the public spotlight, appearing in the TV drama *Hollyoaks: In The City* in 2006. The following year, he reached the finals of the game show *Greece Is the Word*.

He also took part in Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, where he finished seventh.

This follows the artist’s earlier confession that he felt completely lost, devastated, and without hope while struggling with addiction.

During Addiction Awareness Week, he shared that recovery *is* possible for anyone struggling. He explained that just 20 months ago, he felt lost, broken, and without hope.

‘Ask for help, I’m so glad I did. #Wedorecover #Noshame #addiction #youcandoit’.

The singer documented his 2022 entry into rehab after sadly relapsing a year earlier.

In February 2022, he publicly apologized to his family on Twitter, admitting he hadn’t been honest with them. He shared in a heartfelt message that he had been struggling with alcoholism and it had taken control of his life.

The singer revealed he’s been dealing with mental health challenges and announced he’s taking a break from social media for the time being.

I’m checking back into rehab to deal with my alcoholism. It’s a recurring struggle, and I’ll be taking a break from social media for a while to focus on my recovery.

To my remaining family, I apologize for not being honest. I’ve been dealing with some difficult mental health challenges, but I’m happy to share that I’m finally getting the support I need.

I won’t be able to use my phone for a bit, but I’m doing alright. Sending all my love to Clint, Aunt Angela, Aunt Maria, and Brad. x
