Get ready for Elle, the new movie that tells the story before Legally Blonde! After 25 years, fans of the original will be excited to hear it finally has a release date, and we’re getting a sneak peek with some first-look photos.
This new series tells the story of Elle Woods (played by Lexi Minetree) during her high school years in the 1990s, showing what her life was like before she went on to study law at Harvard.
Prime Video announced in May 2024 that a much-loved character is returning to television. Fans won’t have to wait much longer, as the series will debut on July 1st.

Along with the release date, we’re sharing a few pictures of Minetree’s take on the character, wearing Elle’s signature pink outfit.
Laura Kittrell created the series and works as a co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. The cast also features June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott, and Reese Witherspoon – who originally played Elle in the 2001 movie – is an executive producer.

Reese Witherspoon shared that it’s been a long-awaited dream to finally tell the story of how Elle Woods became the inspiring and beloved character we all know, marking 25 years since audiences first met her.
Seeing Lexi take on the role of Elle has been incredibly rewarding for me. I believe the story’s messages about being kind, true to yourself, and having self-confidence will connect with both longtime fans and new viewers.
It’s been a wonderful experience collaborating with the amazing Hello Sunshine team, Amazon, and our talented writers and directors to create Elle’s high school story,” she said. She’s also excited to start working on the already-approved second season.

According to Peter Friedlander, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, the show perfectly embodies the spirit—the heart, confidence, and positivity—that made Elle Woods so memorable, while also offering a relatable and personal story of growing up.
Renewing the show for a second season shows how much we believe in the story and the talented people who made it. We can’t wait for viewers to start watching Elle’s story with season one.
Elle will premiere on Prime Video on 1 July.
