According to a new report, Kyle Sandilands was surprised and upset by Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’s decision to leave their radio show, The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
Private text messages show that radio personalities Kyle tried to apologize to his co-star, but his attempt was rejected.
The 54-year-old sent a text to his colleague apologizing for any offensive comments he may have made, according to a report from news.com.au on Thursday.
Kyle also reportedly told Jackie that he ‘loved’ and ‘cared’ for her.
Jackie told Kyle he’d gone too far, and that his on-air criticism of her work ethic was inappropriate and unfair.
The 51-year-old woman then informed Kyle she was leaving the show and wanted to tell him herself, rather than having management deliver the news.
Kyle didn’t hear from Jackie for a week, but he assumed she would be back at work, according to a source at news.com.au.
According to reports, the radio host was shocked and hurt when Jackie unexpectedly announced her departure from their popular morning show on Tuesday.
It seems Kyle was surprised by Jackie’s departure. Just hours before the announcement on Tuesday, he stated that Jackie would definitely be back on the radio ‘eventually’.
He explained to newsreader Brooklyn Ross that he needed to approve a statement from his colleague, which hinted at some positive developments.
‘I did get some good news though yesterday,’ he said.
Look, I have to approve everything with my name attached, it’s just how it is. So yesterday, I went over and gave the okay to a statement Jackie’s people were putting out. I needed to make sure it all sounded right, you know? It’s just…everything has to go through me.
‘The only thing I noticed is that Jackie will be returning in the future.’
‘So, that’s a good sign. So, the intention is to come back which is fabulous.’
By that evening, The Kyle and Jackie O Show had collapsed.
ARN, the company that owns KIIS FM, has ended Sonia Henderson’s $100 million contract. This decision came after Henderson informed management she could no longer work with Kyle Sandilands, following his on-air remarks that upset her deeply.
Sandilands has been suspended and given 14 days to ‘remedy’ the breach, or else faces termination.
ARN sent Sandilands a written notice explaining that his actions on the February 20th show were a serious violation of the agreement between ARN and Quasar Media.
The KIIS breakfast show is ending right away, and temporary plans are being put in place for the slot.
ARN has suggested Henderson could host another show on their network, but it’s currently unknown what she’ll do next.
Daily Mail has reached out to Henderson and Sandilands for comment.
