Leah Remini and Angelo Pagan file for divorce after 21 years of marriage and reveal why relationship broke down
As a fan who has followed Leah Remini and her journey for years, I must say this news of their divorce after 21 years of marriage comes as a bit of a shock. Yet, as someone who appreciates honesty and transparency, I admire the couple’s openness about their decision. Their shared statement, filled with empathy and mutual respect, reflects a bond that has weathered storms and grown stronger over the years.
Leah Remini and her husband Angelo Pagan are divorcing after 21 years of marriage.
The couple announced their shock split via a joint statement shared to Instagram on Thursday.
The former Scientologist married Pagan in 2003 and they share 20-year-old daughter Sofia Bella.
The news comes just over a week after her BFF Jennifer Lopez — who she recently reconnected with — pulled the plug on her own marriage to Ben Affleck.
In their statement on Thursday, Leah and Angelo shared that they’ve been a couple for 28 years and married for 21, but after careful consideration, they have chosen to initiate the process of divorcing.

After careful consideration and concern, we have arrived at this choice. Although divorce can be challenging, we are choosing to approach it optimistically since we recognize that it serves our best interests.
‘We are proud of how we have worked through this together,’ they continued.
Despite the sadness that comes with ending their marriage, these two maintain they remain the closest of friends.
Absolutely, we’re feeling a mix of sadness, but we’re also determined to navigate through this transition into our ‘new normal.’ We’ll be facing some challenges ahead, yet we’ll continue to stand together in many aspects and adapt to the changes that require us to be apart in others.
However, let me clarify this point: For such a long time, we’ve been inseparable friends. We continue to celebrate festivals, enjoy common TV programs, and reunite as families. This is what they conveyed in their message.
After more than three decades as a couple, Leah and Angelo shared their reasons behind choosing to part ways through a divorce.
Essentially, the main question here is ‘Why?’ In simpler terms, we evolved, like many individuals do, and found ourselves playing parts that no longer felt authentic to us.
Following much thought and hard work, we have chosen to make this move, as it truly embodies who we are now. Though our connection remains unbroken, it has transformed into a new form. This was the essence of their explanation.
Leah and Angelo consider their relationship as a ‘thriving success’ and eagerly anticipate creating ‘wonderful moments’ now that they are no longer married.
Reflecting on the fact that our marriage endured for such an extended period, filling our lives with priceless memories – including the joy of nurturing our remarkable daughter – seems worthy of a celebration indeed.
‘In our view, this marriage thrived greatly. Now, we eagerly anticipate crafting additional treasured memories – though in a new form,’ they expressed.
The couple wanted to be ‘transparent’ as they previously let fans in on their relationship on TV.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve always aimed to keep things honest and open with you all because, for quite some time now, we’ve been inviting you into our private lives – from our television specials on VH1, to the two captivating seasons of our reality show that graced TLC.
We’re venturing into a new, uncharted phase of life together, making these initial strides openly for everyone to join us on this exciting journey.
As a passionate advocate for open dialogue about relationships, I deeply yearn for everyone to gain easier access to diverse types of relationship narratives. This way, no one need feel lonely or isolated while they’re making their own journey through the myriad alterations that countless couples experience annually.
We aspire that our experiences might motivate others to perceive that transitions or conclusions in relationships do not equate to failures.
‘We’ll keep sharing snippets of our lives as we navigate this new chapter. Love, Leah & Angelo
