League of Legends mourns the loss of Season 1 World Champion Shushei at 36
In his 36th year, the League of Legends community says goodbye to Shushei, an influential figure who left an indelible mark on the game during its formative years.
Maciej “Shushei” Ratuszniak was a former professional League of Legends player from Poland, who gained fame for his exceptional gameplay with Gragas and Alistar early in his career. He significantly contributed to the use of these champions as AP carries. The Season 1 World Champion for FNATIC sadly passed away on April 28 at the age of 36.
Who was the League of Legends player, Shushei?
Shushei significantly impacted the world of League of Legends by initiating numerous trends throughout its history. He played a pivotal part in implementing the double-AP meta during Season 2 and was among the first competitive players to employ Vi and AP Evelynn. Shushei’s innovative spirit continually aimed at adding excitement to the game. At the very first World Championship, he emerged victorious with FNATIC, earning him the MVP accolade. Sadly, on April 28th, the League of Legends community mourned the loss of a legend. According to his sister’s post on Facebook, Shushei bravely battled cancer until his passing at the age of 36.
Fnatic has extended its sympathies to the friends and relatives of Shushei, who was a valued member of our League of Legends team that clinched the first-ever World Championships in 2011, marking the start of Fnatic’s dedicated LoL fanbase. In a heartfelt statement, Fnatic shared this on platform X, reminiscing about Shushei. Additionally, they modified their banner to feature the memorable Shushei Gragas skin we received as a reward for our Season 1 World Championship victory.
Esports.gg expresses their sympathies to the family, friends, and fans who were touched by Shushei and took up League of Legends due to his exceptional gameplay. According to a post on Facebook from his sister, his funeral will occur at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection of the Lord in Bydgoszcz, Poland on May 5th.
Shushei was the beacon of the room, an entertainer who would consistently bring laughter to those around him through his passionate cosplays and witty humor. His impact on the game and the community will not be forgotten. Let’s cherish this remarkable moment from Shushei. Farewell, legend. May you rest in peace.
