LoL Esports Global Power Rankings explained
Fundamentally, the League of Legends Esports Global Power Rankings are based on a combined Elo rating system. This system is essentially an average that considers both a team’s individual Elo score and the overall Elo score of their league.
Using this method, the rankings become clearer to interpret, as it simultaneously considers both team and league Elo scores. The significance given is 80% to team Elo and 20% to league Elo.
Regarding additional aspects, this model adjusts following each match in a sequence, gives greater importance to global tournaments, and provides a two-year span for Team Elo ratings as well as a three-year period for League Elo ratings. Riot Games emphasized its ability to accurately forecast results.
According to Riot Games, major global competitions hold more influence over rankings compared to local ones. Furthermore, in this system, elimination rounds (knockout matches) are considered more crucial than the initial group stages.
