LCK’s big changes for 2025: Fearless draft, new LCK Cup
As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming changes to the LCK in 2025 have me both excited and intrigued. The introduction of Fearless Draft in the LCK Cup and the LCK Regular Season is a bold move that I believe will add an extra layer of strategy and unpredictability to the games.

Key modifications include adopting the Fearless Draft system for the upcoming LCK Cup, and recognizing a single champion rather than two at the end of the season.
The LCK in 2025
The following changes below were posted on the official LCK Global X account.
LCK Cup
In the LCK schedule of 2025, the standout event is the introduction of the LCK Cup. This mini-tournament takes place from January to February, and its winner will secure a spot as the LCK’s representative at the inaugural international tournament in March.
As a gamer, I’ll kick things off by diving into the group stage, where the top-two squads from the last season get to select one team each to join their group. This process continues until we have two dynamic groups, each bursting with five powerhouse teams.
Fearless Draft
At the upcoming LCK Cup and its inaugural international tournament, a unique rule called Fearless Draft will be implemented. Essentially, this rule prohibits any champion previously picked in a series from being chosen again in subsequent games within that same series. By the fifth game of a best-of-five, 50 champions will be off-limits due to this draft restriction.
LCK Regular Season in 2025
In 2025 and onwards, instead of having two distinct seasons such as LCK Spring and LCK Summer, there will be a single, extended LCK Regular Season. This season will commence post the initial international tournament and conclude prior to the World Championship.
In the upcoming Regular Season, there will be a total of five stages. The first two stages will employ a double round-robin structure, much like what was used previously. Once stage 2 concludes, the top six teams will earn their spots on the LCK Road to MSI.
After wrapping up the MSI, I’ll be diving back into the game for rounds 3, 4, and 5 of the regular season. The gaming community will be split into two groups: the Legend Group (for those who performed well in rounds 1 and 2) and the Rise Group (for those who didn’t quite make the cut). The top five players will find themselves in the Legend Group, while the bottom five will land in the Rise Group. Let’s see how it all shakes out!
From here on out, teams in these clusters will face off against one another throughout the remainder of the regular season, but they won’t play against any teams belonging to the other groups.
In summary: The leading four squads from Legend qualify for the playoffs and get different numbers of byes. The fifth Legend team, together with the top three from Rise, move on to play-ins. Unfortunately, the last two Rise teams do not progress.
