Layton Williams lines up Strictly reunion in Blackpool-set ballroom comedy

As a dedicated fan of dance and musical theatre, I can’t help but feel a thrill of excitement upon hearing about Layton Williams‘ upcoming projects! The star’s journey since his stint on Strictly Come Dancing has been nothing short of remarkable.

Layton Williams is lining up a Strictly Come Dancing reunion in a new movie.

The contestant who came second in last year’s BBC series will soon feature in the upcoming movie titled “The Light Fantastic“.

In the upcoming project, the artist will be rejoining judge Shirley Ballas, who is collaborating on the film’s choreography with her son Mark.

In the storyline of “The Light Fantastic“, we follow the journey of a thirty-something gay firefighter portrayed by Jeremy Irvine from “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again“. This character has ambitions to excel as a professional ballroom dancer, residing in the vibrant town of Blackpool.

Under the tutelage of conventional instructor Reynolds, portrayed by Rupert Everett in “Napoleon,” he challenges the rigid customs of ballroom dancing. Simultaneously, he embarks on a personal exploration, learning to heed the whispers of his own heart.

In addition to the cast, the upcoming movie will feature Nathan Stewart-Jarrett from “Femme,” with Chris Cottam of “The Problem with People” taking on the director’s role, and Lee Warburton from “Shameless” penning the script for the screenplay.

According to Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder from Cornerstone Productions, the movie is packed with dance, humor, and fantastic tunes.

Since his time on Strictly, Layton has kept himself occupied and most recently took on the role of the Emcee in the West End’s reprise of Cabaret.

He is additionally committed to appear in the West End adaptation of the satirical jukebox musical titled “Titanique,” which humorously reinterprets the 1997 film “Titanic” from the perspective of renowned singer, Celine Dion.

As an ardent admirer, I’d say this captivating performance takes us on a unique, nostalgic journey, exploring the truth behind Jack and Rose’s fateful night. It’s brimming with sentiment, charm, and a delightful dose of unexpected chaos.

On December 9, the Criterion Theatre will host Layton as the Iceberg character, with the grand opening of the musical fantasy production.

The Light Fantastic is set to begin production next year, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
