Lawsuit in which Ellen DeGeneres is accused of careless driving in 2023 California crash takes new turn

A woman is seeking a jury trial in her lawsuit against Ellen DeGeneres, alleging that DeGeneres caused a car crash over two years ago due to careless driving.

Okay, so I’ve been following this whole thing, and apparently, someone is suing Ellen! It’s over a car accident that happened back on October 16th, 2023, in Santa Barbara. This person claims Ellen just blew right through a stop sign and caused the whole thing! I read the court papers – well, People magazine did, and they reported it – and this person officially filed something on Monday to try and get things moving with the case. It’s just… shocking, honestly, to think Ellen might not have stopped at a stop sign!

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Apparently, Ellen DeGeneres completely smashed into this woman’s Tesla – like, a full-on side impact! The woman is saying she’s seriously hurt and her car is wrecked, and she’s filed legal papers about it. I’ve been following Ellen forever, and I’m just… shocked. I hope everyone is okay, but seriously, a Tesla?!

The lawsuit was first brought up in September, while Ellen was vacationing in Florence, Italy with her wife, Portia de Rossi, who is 52 years old.

Currently, a non-jury trial is slated for November 2026, the outlet reported.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for DeGeneres for further comment on the story.

According to court documents, Ellen DeGeneres hasn’t officially received the legal paperwork because she is currently living in the Cotswolds area of England.

According to court documents, the plaintiff has chosen to receive the complaint through official channels using the Hague Convention.

Following the collision, the plaintiff experienced lasting, severe injuries and a substantial loss of income and business earnings, as detailed in court documents.

A complaint filed in September claimed the driver confirmed there were no other cars nearby when she stopped at the stop sign.

According to the complaint, Ellen DeGeneres drove through a stop sign without stopping, entering the intersection unexpectedly. This sudden maneuver caused the collision.

According to the lawsuit filed in September, Ellen DeGeneres’ driving at the time of the crash was careless and didn’t meet the expected standard of a responsible driver.

DeGeneres is alleged to be responsible for the collision between the plaintiff’s car and the defendants’ car.

According to legal documents, the plaintiff stated the car crash caused them to experience a diminished quality of life, along with emotional distress and anxiety.

Following the 2024 presidential election, where Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi moved to live in the English countryside.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Apparently, Chip and Joanna just sold one of their fixer-uppers – a gorgeous farmhouse, no less! – for a whopping amount! I read in the Wall Street Journal that they originally bought it for $30 million, can you even imagine?! They’re seriously crushing it with these house flips, it’s amazing!

They subsequently moved into a bigger home to make room for horses de Rossi owns.

In August, Ellen shared on Instagram that her daughter, Portia, is happily living her dream, horseback riding through the English countryside and visiting the village. She added with a touch of longing, ‘I really hope she comes home soon.’

Ellen DeGeneres was a major star in Hollywood, but her popularity declined after accusations of a negative work environment surfaced in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. This led to lower viewership for her talk show, which ended in May 2022.
