Law & Order Star’s SHOCKING SVU Confession!

In the following TV lineup of 2025, the universe of “Law & Order” will make its comeback, having been preceded by a two-part crossover event that brought together the original series and “Law & Order: SVU” for quite some time. This unique collaboration saw an escalation in the stakes, as a series of brutal murders and sexual assaults unfolded, necessitating the combined efforts of two distinct task forces. Moreover, this case struck particularly close to home for Captain Olivia Benson due to its personal implications.

In my perspective, ADA Nolan Price played a pivotal role in the legal aspects of the situation, and during an interview with TopMob, Hugh Dancy shared some insights about Price’s moving speech to Mariska Hargitay’s character. Interestingly, he incorporated a snippet from the renowned opening narration of SVU into his discourse as well.

Price Confronted Benson In The Crossover

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I recently got the chance to chat with an alumnus from “Hannibal”. Prior to our conversation, I had already watched the two enthralling crossover episodes that can now be streamed, thanks to Peacock subscription. In this special event, Price was a key player, featuring prominently in court and giving a heartfelt performance. However, what truly left an impression on me was when he found himself in the difficult position of advising Benson to step aside, as the ruthless cop killer targeted her son to instill fear and pressure her. Price’s words to her were:

Let me make it clear that I stand with you in this situation. Paul Gomez, who pledged to safeguard and uphold, unfortunately acted against his word, a fact that has left many, including myself, enraged.

Given Price was the most impartial individual present, making the statement to Benson appeared significant and seemed to earn him some reluctant respect from her. In SVU, ADA Carisi displayed a more conciliatory demeanor towards his long-term friend than ADA in Law & Order, creating an intriguing dynamic that prompted me to explore Hugh Dancy’s insights on what it reveals about his character.

Hugh Dancy Weighs In

In contrast to Hugh Dancy’s smaller role in the 2022 crossover event which involved “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” Price had a more significant part this time around. When I inquired about his thoughts on Price’s passionate speech expressing anger towards Lt. Gomez for his dual life as a murderer and rapist, Dancy referenced the opening narration from “SVU” by quoting a portion of it. He stated:

I believe he’d certainly feel outrageous about it. Price has a solid moral compass, and I can see him being deeply affected on a personal level. Given the horrific nature of the crimes we’re discussing, there’s already plenty to be disgusted about. However, what makes this particularly offensive is the betrayal of trust – they’re all public officials, so that’s a significant breach.

I’m not convinced that Hugh Dancy intentionally referenced the “In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous” line from SVU when speaking about his character’s cases. However, the word “heinous” is fitting for both the sexually-based crossover case and the types of cases that Price often handles on Law & Order, which can lead to inconclusive or dissatisfying outcomes at times.

It’s not uncommon for his character’s emotions, especially self-pride, to influence his approach to a case. The District Attorney acknowledged the delicate balance between personal feelings and maintaining objectivity in the courtroom, as previously noted by Dancy as “Price’s pride in himself.

For Price, it matters that he understands his emotions like anger or disgust are useful only when he decides to express them to the jury in a way that benefits his case. If showing those feelings during his opening statement can stir similar sentiments among the jurors, he will do so. However, when being methodical and focusing on procedure and process is more appropriate, he’ll prioritize that. Essentially, this is what he wants Benson to understand: ‘I share your emotions, but now it’s time to present them in a way that serves one side. I’m going to continue with my job.’

In truth, although Law & Order is primarily known as a procedural TV series, it does incorporate serialized aspects that I’ll be paying closer attention to when observing Price. I’m particularly interested in discerning what he decides to reveal and what he carefully hides from the jury. There’s a chance this dynamic could take on a new perspective once viewers have witnessed Price and Carisi working together, each with their unique approaches.

Hugh Dancy had nothing but praise for the delightful collaboration with Peter Scanavino, who portrayed his co-star on SVU. Interestingly, they had no prior interactions before joining the show. Throughout their conversations, Dancy spoke highly of Scanavino and SVU.

I was gradually uncovering and comprehending the inner workings of that series on a daily basis, and it became evident that despite being part of the same cosmos, each team develops its unique rhythm. I observed how Mariska and Peter interacted and seemed to revel in their camaraderie with their respective crews. On a narrative level, I appreciate the contrast between Price and Carisi, as Price is an old friend of Benson’s, so he might not be the one to advise her on recusal, but we both strive to ensure that personal feelings do not cloud our pursuit of a robust case.

It’s unlikely that “Law & Order” and its spinoff “SVU” will share a storyline soon, as neither show has been officially renewed for the 2025-2026 TV season by NBC. However, the appointment of a new showrunner for “SVU” is a positive development for that series. As for the characters, it’s interesting to observe if their portrayals will change in any way following their appearances in “SVU”.

On April 24th, both Law & Order and SVU are having a break, but they’ll return to NBC on May 1st at their regular timeslots of 8 p.m. ET for Law & Order and 9 p.m. ET for SVU. In the meantime, you can catch up on past episodes streaming on Peacock.

Regarding the third installment of the series, “Law & Order: Organized Crime” has returned with a more authentic feel than before, as suggested by one cast member. It’s important to note that not all episodes will be filled with laughs like Christopher Meloni’s “least charming pickup line you can conceive.” Peter Scanavino shared his thoughts on how Carisi may evolve within the series; I personally hope that Price will also appear in the streaming version.
