Law & Order and SVU won’t have any more episodes in 2024 (when will the shows return?)
As a dedicated fan who has grown up with the grit and justice of “Law & Order” and “SVU,” this news about their hiatus in 2024 hits me like a cold winter gust. I’ve weathered countless cases, cried at the most heart-wrenching episodes, and cheered for those victories that made it all worthwhile. But alas, even the sturdiest of New York City buildings need a little maintenance now and then.
We’re excited for additional seasons of both Law & Order and SVU, but I regret to inform you that there won’t be any fresh episodes of these shows in 2024. However, you can still enjoy reruns during the winter season.
We’ve entered the winter break period for shows, which is when they take a long break and television networks air repeats and special programs instead. While this makes sense from a business and personal perspective, it doesn’t necessarily make it enjoyable for us.
Why aren’t Law & Order and SVU new on NBC?
What’s with the lack of new episodes? This is a two-folded reason.
The primary cause for the hiatus is because they’re filming episodes. Since the actors and production team need some time away too, they use this period to be with their loved ones. Consequently, no new episodes can be produced during this span, making a pause inevitable.
Choosing to take a break now offers a second advantage: increased family time. This might involve watching movies together, or looking forward to network specials. Some may also choose to attend evening events, which results in less people tuning into prime-time TV. Given this decrease in nightly viewership, it seems unlikely that networks would risk lower linear ratings by continuing as usual.
When will Law & Order and SVU return?
Here’s some exciting news! You won’t have to wait until 2025 for your favorite shows, “Law & Order” and “SVU,” to come back. In fact, they’re just around the corner! Both series will air again on Thursday, January 16th, starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT. So mark your calendars, and get ready for their return soon!
At this point, we don’t know exactly what each episode will entail, but given the production process, that’s not unexpected. There’s still a bit of a wait ahead, and it seems the episodes might be in the post-production phase. We’ll learn more about them as the release date approaches.
If you’re looking to revisit old favorites or catch up on missed episodes, both “Law & Order” and “SVU” can be streamed conveniently on the platform called Peacock.
