Lauryn Hill reveals why her US tour dates with the Fugees were canceled just THREE days before first show – as she insists European shows are still on
As a longtime fan of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, I must say that this latest turn of events has left me feeling a bit like a rollercoaster ride without a seatbelt. It seems that every time I get my hopes up for a reunion tour, fate has other plans.
Lauryn Hill is explaining why she unexpectedly canceled her upcoming U.S. concerts with the Fugees.
On Wednesday, the 49-year-old musician shared an update about the concerts on Instagram, following a surprise announcement sent via email to fans on Tuesday that left them stunned, stating that the shows had been called off and they would soon receive their refunds.
In her statement, Hill attributed the cancellations to low ticket sales.
Instead, she claimed that slow sales weren’t due to fans’ lack of interest, but rather excessive sensationalism in media outlets and clickbait headlines.
She indicated that after much thought, we decided to cancel our forthcoming North American tour performances. However, the concerts scheduled for the UK and Europe will proceed as originally arranged.
Despite Lauryn Hill’s history of occasionally cancelling shows or starting them late, she recently explained that a health problem was behind a series of recent cancellations.
She shared that she had to postpone some performances last year due to an injury. Unfortunately, certain media outlets’ tendency towards sensationalism and catchy headlines seems to have influenced the story in a way that impacted ticket sales for the North American part of her tour.
“She noted that her sincerity and dedication to her art appear to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate misrepresentation.”
The enthusiasm for UK and European performances could potentially be heightened because these regions have yet to witness the Miseducation Anniversary show, not to mention a reunion of the Fugees after more than two decades. This is according to Hill’s recent update to her fans.
As an ardent admirer, let me express that there is no one more disheartened about missing the chance to take the stage than I am. Every opportunity to perform feels like a profound interchange of energy and emotion that electrifies me each and every time.
She went on to say, “Each performance is a reflection of me and our bond, as well as our mutual passion for music.”

Following gratitude expressed towards fans for their patience, Hill emphasized that the upcoming UK and European tour is set to begin in October as planned. Additionally, she expressed her desire to rejoin the Fugees for future North American performances with renewed energy.
Prior to her update, fans were left in the dark about the abrupt cancellation.
On Tuesday, August 6th, it was announced that ticket buyers for the upcoming R&B artist concert and the famous hip-hop group event would be getting refunds, as the tour dates were taken down from Ticketmaster.
Dissatisfied spectators turned to social networks, voicing their annoyance about not having sufficient updates on the sudden shift at the eleventh hour.
One user @PLoJetson expressed on X, ‘It’s truly disheartening to be a fan of Lauryn Hill. Last October, the show in Dallas was abruptly cancelled without any notice an hour before it started. I persisted during this latest run, despite everyone mocking me for even trying. Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled again. I adore Lauryn, truly. However, one must improve in such situations.’
Varying posts showed snapshots of a Live Nation message, clearly indicating: ‘The event you were planning to attend has been called off. Refund for the same should reach your account shortly.’
The 18-date North American tour was slated to kick off on Friday in Tampa, Florida.
September dates included stops at the Hollywood Bowl and in New York and New Jersey.
Additionally, other cities such as Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Milwaukee had their dates erased – initially for unknown reasons – at some point.
The international leg of the tour’s tickets are still available, beginning with a performance in Manchester, England on October 12th.
The tour, which includes London and Paris shows, is set to end in Amsterdam on October 22.
I’m following closely, and while Hill has announced that these shows are ongoing, I’m not entirely sure if they’ve met the required ticket sale targets yet, or if there’s a possibility they could still be called off at some point in the future.
Prior to her explanation for the cancellations, Hill last posted about the tour on June 24.
The celebration carries on! Pre-sales for the artist’s work start on Wednesday, June 26th at 10am local time using the code MLH. Sales open to everyone commence on Friday, June 28th at 10am.
It’s the third consecutive year that the group cancelled tour dates, leaving fans heartbroken.
Initially scheduled for 2021, the planned reunion tour was pushed back multiple times before ultimately being called off in January 2022, owing to worsening COVID-19 circumstances.
Lauryn’s last major performance was at the BET Awards in June.
