Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen Admits Embarrassment Over King Charles’ Coronation Outfit Comments

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has confessed that he’s still a bit ashamed about the remarks he previously made regarding King Charles’ coronation attire.

The eccentric television figure, aged 59, criticized the attire of the King, calling it odd, during his coronation in 2023. He also mentioned that he has felt snubbed by the monarch since then.

Following his statement about King Charles wearing an unsuitable shade of purple at the significant occasion, Laurence shared with TopMob that, although he felt slighted by the oversight, he remains firm in his original remarks.

He admitted to feeling a bit awkward, as he had claimed that the person wore pajamas in the color purple at their own coronation. However, he stands firm on his statement. He continues to believe that they could have chosen a different outfit for the occasion.

The interior designer, collaborating with the Ideal Home Show, mentioned: ‘The last time we crossed paths, he complimented me on my medals from Chelsea, indicating he recognizes me somewhat. However, I believe if asked to identify me in a group, he might find it challenging.’

Expressing a contrast, he stated: ‘While it’s said that the King cherishes his wife, I often find him gravitating more towards Mrs. Llewelyn-Bowen instead.’

Previously, our conversation took place when he wasn’t yet King; this encounter happened a couple of years back, specifically during an event at Buckingham Palace. However, we ran into him at another occasion as we both happened to be at the same place unrelated to the first event.

In contrast to his fashion choices, the star from Changing Rooms admires Charles more for his diplomatic abilities, often complimenting him on his “subtle yet impactful influence.

He mentioned: “I certainly believe he’s handling his role quite admirably. The key point here is that he’s had plenty of time to prepare for it.

We will likely reflect on his time as Prince of Wales in the future and say, ‘Wow, what a transformation he underwent.'” This version aims to maintain the meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.

25 years back, everyone considered him as an eccentric individual. His conversing with trees and his love for nature seemed absurd then, but today, his ideas are widely accepted norms.

‘We shouldn’t underestimate the quiet, powerful influence a monarch like ours can wield.’

In retrospect of last year’s fashion faux pas, let me share my insights as a lifestyle expert. I found myself in a tricky situation with His Majesty’s trousers. The issue wasn’t about their overall quality or design – they were truly magnificent, the epitome of regal elegance. However, there was a minor hiccup: the color. They were originally Pantone 739, but they should have been Pantone 742 instead. It’s all about the subtle nuances that make a world of difference in the world of fashion.

Let’s observe what transpires during the holiday season at Christmas time. Should we receive a Christmas greeting from you, it will confirm that I am once again part of your circle.

To make matters worse, he commented: “What bothers me most about these grand royal functions is the excessive lighting in Westminster Abbey. It seems to me that it gives off a feeling similar to that of an elderly care facility.

As an ardent admirer, I find myself yearning for a moment where the fluorescents are exchanged for the soft glow of candles. It should be a scene that captivates my heart with its beauty, romance, and an air of power that transcends time – timeless and ageless in essence.

Currently, it has a bit of a mall vibe going on, and I must say, it seems a tad overly reminiscent of a retail park.

He added: “Should another royal event occur in the future, and if I’m available, could we dim the lights slightly? Given my role as the creative director of the Blackpool Illuminations, I believe I ought to participate.

Isn’t it your thought that we could use a touch more Blackpool-like atmosphere in the coronation? It seems fitting to me, doesn’t it? I almost picture them making a call and announcing, “You were correct. We’re opting for a more Blackpool vibe instead.

Previously, Laurence acquired a 10,000 square foot barn conversion from Charles, and currently, he is the owner of a manor house worth approximately £1.6 million located in Gloucestershire, as well as a vacation property in Cornwall.

He mentioned that the King would often pen letters to him while he resided in Gloucestershire, yet not every member of his family shared the same level of admiration.

A long-ago letter from him, which I recently showed to my grandson Albion, contained a picture of King Charles during his time as the Prince of Wales.

He found his handwriting extremely untidy, which I appreciate. In essence, disregard the grandeur of its origins – the seals, the formalities, even its status as a historical artifact – what mattered to him was that it had messy handwriting.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but ponder: had King Charles not been the monarch, he might well have been a General Practitioner. To me, that letter seems to hint at 50 grams of diazepam, or perhaps something entirely different – even an enema.

In 2018, Laurence informed The Daily Telegraph that Charles and Camilla frequently dropped by to ask for additional gin on loan.

Once more, Laurence graces the Ideal Home Show, set to take place at Olympia Events in west London on March 21st. Here, he’ll display his concept of Your Future Home and commemorate 25 years of his renowned brand, LLB.

Apart from the excitement of seeing myself on a bus, which is certainly a dream come true for me, this year held a significant purpose. I aimed to use my Home of Your Future concept to design a living space that mirrors our current reality of living in more compact homes. I wanted to showcase practical solutions to make these smaller spaces more livable and comfortable.

However, it’s important to emphasize the notion of an aging populace who, in my view, strongly resist the concept of being coerced into conformity with monotonous trends, simply for the sake of tradition.

At this year’s Ideal Home Show, held over a span of 17 days at Kensington Olympia, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen! He’ll be there sharing numerous helpful tips, participating in live Q&A sessions, and demonstrating various techniques throughout the event. Don’t miss out on learning interesting tidbits from him at this year’s Ideal Home Show. Check it out here:
