Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen Accuses Bear Grylls of Ambushing Him During Celebrity Survival Challenge
At Tuesday’s Celebrity Bear Hunt launch, there was much to rejoice for Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen; chief among his reasons for celebration was just making it through the Netflix program unscathed.
The well-known television personality, aged 59, is part of an unusual group of celebrities who find themselves in the dense Costa Rican rainforest, facing the possibility of becoming prey to one of the planet’s most formidable predators – Bear Grylls.
In this scenario, individuals who don’t meet expectations during training may find themselves in a challenging situation known as “The Bear Hunt.” This is essentially a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, where Bear takes on the role of the hunter, pursuing them relentlessly. If they are captured, their journey on the show comes to an end.
On Tuesday, the show’s cast gathered with Bear Grylls and host Holly Willoughby at a glamorous debut event in London’s Leicester Square. Later in the evening, the group moved to Kettners, where Laurence appeared dapper but somewhat less than his best.
Last Spring, during the filming of the show, it was disclosed that Laurence came close to death in an unexpected rafting incident, as reported by TopMob.
For several pulse-pounding moments, he found himself submerged underwater as a result of becoming tangled in a bungee cord, but eventually managed to be rescued from the dangerous situation.
In conversation with TopMob, Lawrence shared that it was Bear who stepped in to save him during the frightening event.
Turns out, I wasn’t meant to be an Avenger, he joked. I genuinely believed I could handle it. I was pumped with adrenaline and overestimated my own skills, unfortunately they weren’t as great as I thought.
As a diligent adherent, I found myself trapped beneath the raft in an unexpected predicament. Despite this realization of my predicament, I persisted rather unwisely, continuing my efforts. Unfortunately, this perseverance led me to a state of dizziness and the onset of acute chest pains.
Suddenly, Bear was on top of me – something many people would dream of – yet he seemed as heavy and unwelcome as a wet sack full of tools!
In a remarkable turn of events, the bear might have spared his existence, yet it didn’t dampen Lawrence’s competitive zeal throughout the game. Later on in the series, Lawrence confessed that he harbored intense frustration towards the survival expert for catching him at a time when he was relieving himself.
He exclaimed, “I was really upset about this because I usually have a strong bladder, but not this time!” He joked, “I’m like the camel in our family.” (Or simply: “I’m the one with the strongest bladder among us, but not today. I’m like a camel.”)
The process took more time than expected, and we found ourselves delayed in entering the Bear Pit. Instead of water or other drinks, they continually offered us Gatorade, which seemed harmful. It was just me, Steph McGovern, and Mel B, while the other ladies made multiple trips to the restroom prior to this, I did not.
As soon as the race begins, you transform into a totally distinct individual. You turn into something wild. It’s a matter of survival, and we had numerous plans up our sleeves.
As I found myself in the midst of a necessary moment, the sounds of the camera crew erupting with laughter filled my ears. In that split second, it crossed my mind that pausing this action mid-flow would be quite the spectacle, but then Bear delivered another punch.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my disapproval of such a behavior: it’s inappropriate to lurk behind bushes when a gentleman is relieving himself and then startle him. Such actions seem more fitting for a tiger, don’t they?
Among the twelve celebrity contestants, Lawrence, who’s not the oldest (with Shirley Ballas being 64), has confessed that approaching a significant birthday served as the motivation for him to join the competition.
‘I have many women in my life who are telling me, “We told you not to do that!” But deep down, I felt a sense of curiosity that overpowered my better judgment. At 60 years old, I knew I wouldn’t take action on my own, but I was intrigued by the prospect of seeing how things would unfold.’
I soon found myself being referred to as the “uncle” of our makeshift family within the camp, gently encouraging fellow members such as Lottie Moss and Danny Ciprani to foster a warm and joyful environment – a position that felt comfortable and familiar to me, given my experience at home.
He clarified to TopMob that his living situation involves residing with his daughters, their spouses, and his grandkids.
At times, I find myself saying, “Alright everyone, let’s move forward.” or “Let’s keep going now.” This is a way to encourage everyone to continue with the task at hand.
I’m confident that it must have been quite frustrating for all of you, having me as the one who was eager for everyone to find harmony.
