At an event in Connecticut this week, Lauren Sanchez opted for a less formal look, wearing a clean white shirt and worn-out slim jeans.

On hump day, Scholastic, the international children’s publisher, educator, and media firm, declared that Sanchez Bezos is designated as a Literacy Advocate for America’s Readers.

A brunette acquaintance of the Kardashian sisters (Kim and Khloe) recently visited students at Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School.

Sanchez Bezos expressed that collaborating with Scholastic on the United States of Readers program is genuinely a privilege, he stated.

As a passionate book enthusiast, both as a mom and an author, I fully appreciate the immense power that books hold in sculpting a child’s universe. I firmly believe that literacy serves as the bedrock upon which academic achievement and personal growth are built.

Scholastic provides a literacy support program for classrooms, which encourages book selection and ownership for children in kindergarten through 8th grade who attend under-resourced schools within the United States.

According to Judy Newman, Scholastic’s Chief Impact Officer, as a pilot, author, and champion for children, Lauren Sánchez Bezos recognizes that every child requires top-notch reading education in academics and should also be given the freedom to pick and possess books that inspire them to read enthusiastically.

Under the terms of this partnership, Sanchez Bezos’ acclaimed picture book “The Fly Who Went to Space,” together with its Spanish version titled “La Mosca Que Voló al Espacio,” will begin being distributed to students via the US Reading program starting in the Fall season.

In simple, conversational language, the book titled “The Fly Who Flew to Space,” published by The Collective Book Studio, a company owned by women, tells the story of Flynn, a charming little fly harboring ambitions of being an astronaut, who embarks on a space journey.

In simple terms, the book about Flynn motivates young audiences to have grand aspirations, maintain their curiosity, and discover their surroundings. This book embodies such spirit, and in this context, Flynn will take on the role of a representative or advocate, which could be referred to as ‘Flynn, the Voice for Readers,’ representing the United States of Book Lovers.

To foster creativity in children by means of literature, the United States of Readers plans to initiate a year-long classroom project named ‘Dear Flynn’. In this project, students will have the opportunity to pen letters expressing their personal aspirations and dreams to an imaginary character named Flynn.

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Bezos, the United States’ Readers Literacy Ambassador, made a visit to Winthrop STEM Public Elementary School in New London, Connecticut, marking the beginning of her new role.

At the book reading event featuring Sánchez Bezos, she shared excerpts from “The Fly Who Flew to Space,” responded to inquiries from students regarding her creative influences and profession as a children’s writer, and engaged with educators and school officials about their objectives related to student literacy.

As a fervent advocate for literacy, Sánchez Bezos intends to deepen connections with numerous schools during the academic year, aiming to spread motivational insights on the significance of reading, as well as emphasizing the importance of having books readily available and diverse in their selections.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m passionate about fostering a love for reading in every household. That’s why I support initiatives like the United States of Readers program, a collaborative effort between Scholastic and Impact Reading, a new non-profit organization. Our goal is to address the literacy gap and book inequity, particularly in Title I schools and rural communities where students often lack the chance to select their own books and establish personal home libraries.

Over a period of two years, the United States of Readers program, tested across all U.S states involving 48,000 students, focuses on optimizing impact and efficiency. This initiative allows each participant to select high-quality reading materials from various publishers, inspiring them to immerse themselves in literature.

The program offers a carefully chosen assortment of books suitable for different grade levels. Students get to select two books every quarter (that’s five times a year), which adds up to ten free books annually, enriching their home libraries without any charges to the families.

Additionally, teachers at participating schools are given 25 books each for their classroom libraries, thereby enhancing the variety and availability of reading materials for the entire school community. Throughout the academic year, families receive resources that resonate with them to boost their children’s reading skills and bridge the gap between home and school. This program is sustained by funding from both state and local entities, as well as contributions from private donors.
