Lauren Phillips reveals she and co-star Jase Hawkins feel ‘more accepted’ since switching to Nova as they compete for top gong at 2024 ACRA Awards – while rivals Kyle and Jackie O are a no-show
As a dedicated radio enthusiast with years of tuning in to these dynamic duos, I find myself intrigued by this latest turn of events at the ACRA Awards. Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’s no-show has left quite a void on the red carpet, and their absence was certainly felt among the A-list celebrities.
On Saturday, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson surprised their high-profile radio peers by not attending the prestigious ACRA Awards in Sydney.
ARN publicists declined to explain to Daily Mail Australia why the celebrities decided against attending, however, they mentioned that Kyle was absent at the event last year as well, and Jackie O found it uncomfortable to go alone.
As a lifestyle expert, I was eagerly anticipating the showdown between my esteemed peers from KIIS FM, nominees for the Best On-Air Team at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, and their formidable rivals Lauren Phillips and Jase Hawkins from Nova, also in contention for the same prestigious award.
On that particular evening, surprisingly, the highly-rated KIIS FM hosts did not make an appearance among the A-list celebrities, with Kate Ritchie, Brittany Hockley, and Brooke Blurton being some of those present instead.
At the same event, Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins and Lauren Phillips had a conversation with Daily Mail Australia, where they addressed rumors of a conflict between them and Kyle and Jackie O.
‘We’ve just got to do our own thing. Let everyone else get caught up in all the drama and s**t and we’ll keep doing us and having fun,’ Jase began.
The radio star was also quick to refute suggestions there had been ‘banter’ between them and Kyle and Jackie O.
‘There’s been no banter. We don’t really read the articles to be honest.’
They were overjoyed to discover that their project was performing exceptionally well in Melbourne. This knowledge significantly boosted their self-assurance when it came to participating in the event, a stark contrast to how they felt last year.
‘It’s a blessing in disguise. It’s been a year where our heads are spinning’ Jase said.
In our transition to Nova, the show remained consistent, but what truly transformed was how we were received. I must say, it’s been an exceptional experience that has felt nothing short of welcoming and accepting. It’s simply the best!
‘We’ve definitely felt the support of Melbourne, which has been really nice,’ Lauren added.
Kyle and Jackie, as well as Jase and Lauren, are finalists in the category of Best On-Air Team at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs). The winners will be announced during a ceremony taking place at Sydney’s Star Hotel on this coming Saturday.
This year, the two teams have been fiercely competing in the Melbourne market. The duo of Nova’s Jase and Lauren has convincingly surpassed the Kyle and Jackie O Show in terms of ratings.
After being let go from KIIS FM last year, it turned out to be a delightful triumph for Jase and Lauren as they recently secured a new radio show in Melbourne, marking their move away from Sydney and the expansion of Kyle and Jackie’s program.
