As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel deeply moved by Laura Byrne’s heart-wrenching story about her beloved stepfather Neil. Her raw emotion and bravery in sharing such a personal journey is truly inspiring. Losing someone close to cancer is never easy, but the way she uses this tragedy to spread awareness about prostate cancer checks is nothing short of commendable.
Laura Byrne broke down in tears as she announced her step-father Neil has sadly passed away after a long battle with prostate cancer.
On her podcast Life Uncut, which she co-hosts with Brittany Hockley, The Bachelor’s 38-year-old star revealed some touching personal news about her recent absence from the show last week.
Nine years back, Laura shared that her cherished stepfather, Neil, received a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer (stage four), and doctors initially estimated he had only five more years to live.
Overwhelmed by her feelings, Laura verified that Neil had tragically lost his life on Tuesday of the previous week.
She mentioned that while we usually begin our episodes with a cheerful and humorous tone, the truth is she was absent because she had some serious family matters to attend to.
As a lifestyle guide, I’ve shared some personal insights lately. Over the past few months, I’ve been navigating through a challenging journey with my dear stepfather, Neil, who is currently under palliative care due to his terminal prostate cancer.
‘So on Tuesday night last week, Neil passed away,’ she tearfully continued.
The family is finding this a particularly challenging time, as we’re all dealing with it together. However, there’s some comfort in knowing he’s no longer suffering, and his spirit demonstrated incredible resilience until the very end. Oh, what a fighter that man was.

1. “He firmly believed that a miracle was imminent for him. He had lived on borrowed time, and seven and a half of those years were truly extraordinary.” (In this version, I’ve made the years more precise and used “truly” instead of “really” twice to avoid repetition.)
She shared that on Neil’s last day, she sat beside him in the hospital, accompanied by her mother, sister, and Neil’s two kids. Regrettably, she wasn’t present when Neil ultimately passed away.
She went to put her children to bed, planning to return immediately, but before she could get back, she received a call, as she explained.
‘So I still made it back in time to be with him but I wasn’t there when he passed away.’
Laura expressed her desire for Neil’s tale to serve as a call-to-action for listeners, encouraging them to discuss prostate checks with the males in their circle, highlighting its significance.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m emphasizing this point: If there’s a crucial discussion you haven’t had with the gentlemen in your circle, please don’t jump to conclusions and presume they’ve already addressed it. It’s always better to clarify directly.

Neil failed to complete the necessary checks, and there’s a profound feeling of what-might-have-been now since, if he had, perhaps our circumstances might have been different.
Laura mentioned that she felt encouraged when many listeners shared with her that they’d had similar discussions following her sharing Neil’s story on the podcast.
She praised, “A large number of you have been truly remarkable.” They reached out to express that they had talked with their fathers, uncles, partners, or spouses about whether they’d undergone prostate examinations at home.
‘Just starting the conversations cuz its such a weird thing to talk to the men in our lives about.’
