Last One Laughing’s rich list: Alan Carr climbs the ranks but host Jimmy Carr steals top spot as season two cast’s bumper bank balances are revealed

The comedy show Last One Laughing was back last month, challenging ten well-known comedians to avoid laughing for six full hours.

After the release of its second series, the comedy reality show hosted by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty is being called the funniest show of the year.

The show features a fantastic lineup of comedians including David Mitchell, Diane Morgan, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Mel Giedroyc, Alan, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell, and Bob Mortimer.

The show puts comedians together in a small space and challenges them to make each other laugh. If a comedian laughs twice, they’re out of the competition.

David won season two on Thursday, defeating Sam in a funny final showdown.

It just doesn’t seem fair! Everyone keeps talking about how successful David is, but honestly, it’s his peers who are really raking it in. All these other comedians have become unbelievably wealthy over the years, and it makes me wonder what David could have achieved if things had gone a little differently. It’s just… frustrating to see them all so rich while he struggles!

Let’s look at the fortunes of the comedians who took part in this year’s series.

Jimmy Carr – £26M

Jimmy Carr has earned an impressive £26 million hosting various successful shows over the years.

Recent financial reports show that his company, R & I Futures Ltd, earned £4.8 million in the year ending September 2024, thanks to his achievements.

Jimmy set up the company two years ago and is earning nearly £100,000 per week.

He recently announced plans for another season of Last One Laughing, following enthusiastic fan reactions that called it ‘the funniest show ever’.

Just after the latest episodes became available on Prime Video, Last One Laughing announced it’s been renewed for a third season.

Alan Carr – £20M

Alan Carr, known for being the second comedian to receive a red card on the show for laughing, is now reportedly worth around £20 million, making him financially successful.

After winning The Celebrity Traitors, the comedian is now scheduled to perform in several shows.

He recently revealed he owns the rights to the title ‘The Baron of Ayton’ and intends to design his own tartan following his purchase of the £3.25 million castle.

The barony dates back to 1324 and was available to purchase alongside the estate.

The large property includes 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of beautiful gardens, and a small railway for fun.

Alan plans to renovate the historic estate and turn it into a comfortable home, and the process will be featured in his new Disney+ show.

The new show, currently called ‘Castle Man,’ will be similar in format to Jeremy Clarkson’s popular BBC home renovation series, which featured Amanda Holden. It’s being produced by Expectation, the company that also made ‘Clarkson’s Farm’.

I’ve been watching Alan’s career, and it’s incredible to see how he’s mastered all the key areas of the business. He’s now in a position where he’s closing deals worth millions across the board, which is fantastic!

Bob Mortimer – £10M

Last year, 66-year-old Bob won the first series of the show by making his co-star, Richard Ayoade, laugh with a string of jokes from his collection.

The champion was back for another season and ready to compete against a new group of comedians.

He first became famous as a TV performer alongside Vic Reeves, but today he’s widely recognized for hosting the fishing show ‘Gone Fishing’ with Paul Whitehouse from ‘The Fast Show’.

He prefers to keep his financial details private. His only current business venture is Owl Power Ltd, a production company he co-owns with Paul from the Fast Show, which has assets worth £436,190.

Okay, let’s talk numbers! After three decades in the business, and with hits like ‘Shooting Stars’ and ‘The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer’ under his belt, it’s estimated this comedian has built up a fortune of around £10 million. Not bad, right? It just goes to show what dedication and a brilliant sense of humor can achieve!

Mel Giedroyc – £4M

I’ve been a fan of Mel Giedroyc for years, and it’s amazing to see how she’s thrived in the entertainment world for over three decades! She’s clearly done incredibly well for herself, and all that hard work has definitely paid off – I understand she’s earned a very comfortable living.

Mel Giedroyc is famous as one half of the comedy duo Mel and Sue, alongside Sue Perkins. Together, they were the hosts of the popular show The Great British Bake Off, and they also had their own chat show.

Prior to her hilarious stint on Last One Laughing, Mel appeared on The Masked Singer as ‘teeth’.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this, but Mel actually tried to run two TV companies! First there was Tinsel Mines, and then Mel Giedroyc Ltd. Sadly, both of them eventually closed down, which is just… heartbreaking, honestly. But still, the fact she even tried? Iconic!

Mel faced financial hardship in 2007, nearly going bankrupt after losing a Kingsmill bread advertising contract and taking out a £500,000 mortgage she couldn’t comfortably afford. Now, her financial situation is much improved, with an estimated net worth of £4 million.

Mel shared that she and her husband, Ben Morris, once had to quickly sell their house and downsize to a small apartment. This happened because they were facing financial difficulties with their large mortgage and almost went bankrupt.

The speaker explained that they faced a difficult challenge when their income stopped and they realized they couldn’t make their mortgage payments.

Mel explained to The Telegraph that they had taken out loans for a house that was beyond their means, and ultimately lost the property.

The former host of The Great British Bake Off admitted they took a risk when they bought the house, relying on a large loan from the bank even though they couldn’t really afford it.

Mel shared that she struggled with insomnia for a year when she lost work and they faced financial hardship because of their large mortgage payments.

Mel described a year of intense worry and sleepless nights, feeling they were facing a financial crisis they couldn’t overcome.

She explained they only purchased the property because the bank approved a large loan – they didn’t have the funds themselves. This situation made her start to reflect on things.

Mel was quick to point out they weren’t actually going to be without a home, and they felt fortunate to have sold their house quickly and moved into a small apartment.

She explained that they weren’t facing homelessness, but they did have to sell their house rapidly. They downsized to a small rental apartment and stored most of their belongings.

The challenging time helped Mel understand who her true friends were. She shared that her comedy partner, Sue, was a constant source of support.

Mel explained that true friends are those who don’t care about your wealth or social standing; they value you for who you are.

Romesh Ranganathan – £3M

Romesh Ranganathan, at 48 years old, has quickly become a very popular face on television, and his financial success shows it.

Romesh’s primary company, Vetty Ltd, is now valued at £2,496,777. Combined with the £468,645 held by his other company, Ranga Bee, he has a total net worth of around £3 million.

In 2022, the BBC presenter purchased a new house worth £3 million, located just five miles from the more modest home where he spent his childhood.

Even after becoming a popular TV personality in Britain, the comedian avoided living in typical celebrity hotspots and decided to build a large, six-bedroom house in his hometown of Crawley, West Sussex.

This is a world away from the modest home where he spent his childhood with his parents, Shanthi and Ranga, who came from Sri Lanka, and his brother, Dinesh.

According to a source, Romesh Ranganathan chose to remain in his hometown of Crawley despite having the means to live in a more luxurious location. He wanted to stay close to his mother and brother, and genuinely loves the town.

He’s finally found the perfect spot to build the house he’s always wanted, and it’s much larger than the one he grew up in, located in a less affluent part of Crawley. It’s a truly inspiring story of success, earned through Romesh’s hard work and dedication.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always been fascinated by people’s journeys, and this comedian’s story is particularly compelling. He’s spoken openly about a really difficult childhood – his family actually lost their home when he was young. It happened after his father, who was an accountant, was unfortunately imprisoned for fraud. It’s incredible to see how he’s turned things around and is now hosting ‘The Weakest Link’ after taking over from Anne Robinson. It really highlights resilience and the power of overcoming adversity.

He remembered when his family had to stay in a bed-and-breakfast while they waited for the council to find them a new home, and explained that everything happened very fast and was a difficult time.

My mother discovered my father was having an affair. He also got into serious financial trouble, and as a result, we lost our home.

We were expecting to be moved into a council flat, but there weren’t any available. As a result, we spent a year and a half living in a bed-and-breakfast. On top of that, my dad was in prison, which made everything incredibly difficult.

Diane Morgan – £3M

Diane Morgan first became well-known for her quirky role as Kath in Ricky Gervais’s After Life. She then created and starred in Cunk, a very popular and funny TV series of her own.

She’s earned every bit of her success, and her company, Witchcraft Industries Ltd, is financially secure with over £2.7 million available – more than £1.28 million in reserves and over £1.43 million in cash.

It paid £133k corporation tax last year, suggesting profits of around £532k.

David Mitchell – £2M

Honestly, I’ve been completely hooked on David Mitchell ever since Peep Show first aired! It’s amazing to see how his incredible talent – that brilliantly awkward, witty thing he does – has just exploded everywhere. It’s not just the classic shows with Robert Webb, either! He’s killing it on panel shows, writing scripts for others, conquering the stage, and writing books! Seriously, is there anything this man can’t do? I’m obsessed, clearly.

The company co-owned by him and Robert Webb, That Mitchell and Webb Company, has assets worth £294,485.

While his other business GoodImpact Ltd has £895,580 reserves.

The incredibly versatile 51-year-old has earned significantly more than the £1 million his companies currently report.

It’s believed he’s worth at least double that figure now, more likely £2million.

Amy Gledhill – £1M

Amy Gledhill, a 38-year-old comedian from Hull, recently gained recognition after winning the Best Show award at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She performs as one half of the comedy duo, The Delightful Sausage, alongside Chris Cantrill.

The pair have made guest appearances on shows such as Would I Lie To You? and Taskmaster.

Amy Gledhill’s company, Amy Gledhill Ltd, currently holds around £89,517 in assets. However, since she began her career in 2019, her total wealth is estimated to be closer to £1 million.

She recently starred in Harlan Coben’s Netflix series Runaway as DC Ruby Todd.

Maisie Adam – £1M

According to Wider Weekly, Maisie Dobinson is estimated to have a net worth between £500,000 and £1 million. She is married to Mike Dobinson.

The stand-up comedian, 32, first gained attention after winning So You Think You’re Funny? in 2017.

It opened an abundance of opportunities to festivals, tours and major TV appearances.

Gbemisola Ikumelo

Gbemisola Ikumelo became well-known for her popular sketch show, Famalam, and has twice been recognized with a BAFTA award, winning in both 2020 and 2024.

The 40-year-old comedian has also acted in movies and stage productions in addition to performing stand-up.

She’s clearly successful enough to start her own company – she registered Swagbag Productions UK in March 2025 – though the company hasn’t submitted any financial reports yet.

Sam Campbell

The 34-year-old Australian comedian won the award for best comedy show at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

He has forged a successful career in comedy since, but like Gbemisola is yet to file any accounts.
