Last of Us boss says season three could be the last: “It has to have an end”
Craig Mazin, a co-creator of “The Last of Us,” has recently disclosed that the gripping dystopian saga might conclude earlier than some enthusiasts anticipated.
Before the premiere of the show’s second season, Mazin and Neil Druckmann, its creators, made clear that they had no plans to expand the post-apocalyptic horror narrative beyond the original source material.
“I am not going to go past the game,” Mazin told The Hollywood Reporter.

Let me put it straight. If someone is wondering, “Are these individuals attempting an outdated scheme for making money quickly…”
This way, the original meaning and tone are preserved while making it easier to read and understand.
I’m investing a significant portion of my limited years left into crafting this narrative. Making the show is challenging and requires a conclusion, so I won’t extend beyond it.”
This version maintains the original message while using more accessible language and providing a slight rephrasing to improve clarity.
In the universe of The Last of Us series, there are presently just two video games. Regarding speculations about a third game, Druckmann, who was instrumental in their development, has suggested that odds are not in favor of more installments (as reported by Metro).
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the first season of “The Last of Us” series follows the entire narrative from the initial video game, and we’re eagerly awaiting season three, which is currently in development. This suggests that the storyline of the second game will be stretched across at least two seasons!
Speaking on the possibility of more from the TV franchise, Mazin said:
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but wonder if the anticipated “Dunk and Egg,” or perhaps even a “The Last of Us” series, could be in the works. The question on my mind is whether this captivating storyline will unfold in a single season or if it warrants a split into two. If they manage to wrap everything up neatly within one more season, I’d be thrilled. But if it seems more fitting to divide it across two, I’m all for it!
Previously, Mazin had shared with Entertainment Weekly that it’s quite probable that our tale will continue beyond Season 3, even though he is dedicated to wrapping up the series concisely.
“At what point in time are we now? I couldn’t tell you exactly. However, it’s important to note that there may be other tales yet untold, but the narrative Neil and I are focusing on is the one we’re sharing with you.
The series “The Last of Us” broadcasts in the United States on HBO, while it can be found on Sky Atlantic and the streaming service NOW in the UK. Production for season 2 is currently underway.
