Last man charged in 2020 killing of rapper Pop Smoke pleads guilty
As I share this news, I can’t help but express my dismay. The individual linked to the tragic 2020 death of the promising artist, Pop Smoke, has admitted guilt on three charges this week, potentially facing nearly three decades behind bars as per authorities’ reports.
Corey Walker, aged 24, admitted his guilt on Wednesday to one charge of voluntary manslaughter, as well as two counts of robbery involving a firearm and gang-related offenses, as stated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. In return for this plea, the prosecution chose not to pursue a murder charge against Walker.
Walker is expected to be sentenced to 29 years during his next court hearing on Feb. 21.
On Thursday, Walker’s lawyer didn’t respond to our phone call straightaway. The prosecutor’s office has chosen to remain silent about an ongoing legal matter, declining to make any comments.

On Wednesday morning, authorities reported that up-and-coming New York rapper Pop Smoke was tragically killed during a shooting at a house in the Hollywood Hills.
In February 2020, an aspiring rapper named Pop Smoke was fatally wounded during a burglary at a luxurious rental property in the Hollywood Hills. Known for his rising fame following the release of mixtapes like “Meet the Woo” and its sequel, this unfortunate incident occurred shortly after.
Smoke, whose legal name was Bashar Barakah Jackson, later died at a hospital. He was 20 years old.
It’s suspected that a photo shared on Instagram might have disclosed the location where he was residing, along with items of value he had on him at the moment.
Four individuals, including one adult (Walker), were accused of being involved in his death. At the time of the fatal incident, Walker was the only adult present. The district attorney’s office claims that Walker orchestrated a group consisting of three minors, allegedly implicating them in the crime.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the individuals who killed rapper Pop Smoke might have discovered his whereabouts, which was his Hollywood Hills residence, through social media updates.
In April 2023, the initial accused admitted guilt for voluntary manslaughter and robbery during a home invasion. As a result, he was given a sentence of four years and two months in a Secure Youth Rehabilitation Center.
Back in May of 2023, I stood before a juvenile court, facing charges for first-degree murder, home-invasion robbery, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a crime. I confessed to these allegations, acknowledging my actions at the tender age of 15.
The man is expected to be held in a state juvenile facility until he turns 25.
According to Rolling Stone, the fourth individual involved in the crime has resolved their case and is now being held at a post-trial juvenile detention center.
