Reports say the upcoming Amazon Prime series based on Lara Croft is facing major issues. Lead actress Sophie Turner reportedly injured her back during filming of the £100 million production, causing disruption on set.
Filming at Shepperton Studios stopped for about a month after Sophie Turner, the 30-year-old actress from Game of Thrones, reinjured herself. It’s believed she may need up to six months to fully heal.
Sophie is taking on the famous role previously played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and she’s been preparing for the action sequences with over a year of stunt training.
Since most of the new series is already filmed, producers believe it would be difficult to recast the role of Sophie with a different actress.
According to a source, filming has been difficult, and the entire production is now at risk. Sophie has been working incredibly hard to prepare for the role, but the demanding physical requirements of playing Lara Croft have taken a toll on her body.
There’s growing concern on set that Sophie might have to leave the production, as her recovery is uncertain. The role has been incredibly demanding physically and has really taken a toll on her.
‘But so much has already been shot that it’s causing a real headache for producers.’
Daily Mail has contacted Sophie’s representative and Amazon Prime for comment.
Sophie shared that she discovered a recurring back injury while training, which she started in February of last year.
Sophie explained on The Julia Cunningham Show that she and her team have been training intensely – eight hours a day, five days a week – since February of last year. She admitted it’s been a demanding schedule.
I recently found out I have a chronic back issue. It’s also been a long process getting in shape because I hadn’t exercised before, and building muscle takes time. It’s taken me many months to get where I am now.
Sophie Turner is famous for playing Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, but she says her time on that show didn’t help her prepare for the role in Tomb Raider. She explained that she didn’t do any action sequences during her years on Game of Thrones.
Honestly, I always saw myself as the effortlessly cool one, above all that drama. It just wasn’t me to get involved in fights. I was always the one taking the hits, not dishing them out, you know? It’s just… not my style.
‘So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.’
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her role in Fleabag, is the creative force behind a new project. She wrote it, developed it, and is also an executive producer.
Last September, she revealed that Sophie Turner would be playing Lara, expressing her excitement about working with both Turner and the incredibly talented team behind the project.
‘It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving.
The whole team is incredibly enthusiastic about Lara, and they’re just as daring, funny, and bold as she is. Prepare yourselves – Lara Croft is on her way!
Sophie joins the likes of Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs in the video game adaptation.
